The Pope 🤝 using gay slurs
Remember a few weeks ago when the Pope apologised for using a gay slur??? I don’t think he meant it because guess who’s gone and done it again? The goddamn Pope.
According to an Italian news agency, the pope used the exact same slur while speaking to a group of priests:
“One Italian newspaper, Corriere della Sera, reported that this time around the pope was relaying something he had been told when he said the word. “A bishop came to me and told me, ‘There is too much frociaggine here in the Vatican,’” the newspaper reported, per the New York Times translation. Frociaggine is the Italian equivalent of our English-language f-slur, so you can piece together what was being said.”
More on this story here (tho, I think I covered most of it…)
More than 171,000 people travelled out-of-state for abortions last year
Since abortion bans took hold in America (remember… that whole Roe V Wade reversal thing… the one that happened on the same day as the Met Gala that time…) over 171,000 people have had to travel to a state where it’s still legal. Unsurprisingly, the people who are mostly affected by this, and who are having to drive the longest distances, are “more likely to come from congressional districts with lower incomes and more diverse populations.”

So many of us have grown up having everything available and accessible to us all the time - which is AMAZING for so many reasons, but there is a cost to free things - even if you can’t see it.
In a world that feels more mystifying by the day, where journalists are constantly being laid off, and misinformation spreads faster than a leaked Harry Styles song, finding media that you trust, understand and actually want to read is so important.
I know you value what I do - so many of you email me saying how much you love the newsletter, thanking me for explaining topics you might not have heard of, and telling me how much it means to you that you’ve got a friend on the other side of this thing (🥺🥺🥺) If you believe in paying for the media (or the person???) you love, then please consider becoming a supporter.

I recently discovered the tv series "Hacks". I love it!! Can recommend. I generally feel like we have too much North American tv (and pop culture) but this is the kind om humour that I think they do really well.
