Angels! Today's newsy is going to less of Luce and more of Bel (!!!) because as you will read we pulled the clutch out together a little bit last night and I have a 6am podcast record!! Yesterday got super busy so I couldn't really prep this newsy for you, but to make it up to you tomorrow you're going to have a killer episode of The Shit Show all about Andrew Tate. Also, here are some cute responses from yesterday 🥺🥺🥺
From newsy reader Mary:
"I just have to say why is everyone in the SYSCAverse so funny??! i swear everytime i’m listening to the podcasts or even just reading the newsy i’m always holding in my laugh (i read and listen to them on the train in to work/class) and the amount of times a laugh has slipped out when the train is packed and silent which is always a bit embarro
i’m just waiting for the day someone asks what i’m listening to/reading so i can tell them all about the wonderful world of SYSCA"
My response to this is: WHAT A COMPLIMENT, and also... don't wait for a reason to tell everyone about SYSCA... just go tell em!!!
And from a very appauled Aroha:
"Dear Luce
Mackintoshes??!!! WHY did Rubes even have them in the first place?? Are you still eating your way through the bucket from your vehicle testing days?? Did someone in the office have them as the leftovers from a Lolly scramble and all the good lollies had been eaten already? Or are you guys secretly boomers and you actually choose to buy those at the supermarket and this whole “we are chill gen Zers” is actually a massive scam??
I personally have only ever eaten mackintoshes in the lolly scramble situation. Lol
Concerned citizen,
Aroha"
And my response is that Ruby weirdly likes (???) them and we are defs Gen Z (not that there's anything wrong with being older than that!)
Love you all, see you for a proper edish tomorrow! xx

Bel Chimes In: On Female Friendships
This section is written by my crush, the refreshing-as-a-house-chardonnay-on-a-steamy-day, Bel Hawkins. You should check out more of her beautiful words here.
As usual, absolutely gorge to be here each week. Writing to you brings me true joy, and your messages are an extremely cute highlight I read once I get into my car on Friday nights after the working week is done (side note - how poetic is it sitting in your car for like 20 minutes when you turn the engine off?! It's often when I have my best / most existential thoughts. Maybe it's that feeling similar to being in an aeroplane suspended in time). So thank you! Ily hard.
I'd also like to do a special shoutout to the outpouring of concern over my thin hair woes last week! Chat back soon when I've tried something else wild to deal with it, or I come back to you with some intense regrets and a desperate need for more advice. Lol. In the meantime... Another Chime!
I'm writing this to you from the Uber on my way back from an event Luce and I have just been to. It's raining, I'm tired (as always — boring! We'll talk about that another time). Late night talkback radio is playing. But I feel... alive.
Luce and I took a rare 'bookending' approach to today, meaning we had our monthly phoenixing coffee in the morning, spilling hot tea about our lives and ended the day with a mild mid-week clutch pulling out with a cocktail at a bougie bar for rich people we'd never normally go to and a magazine party where we everyone was super nice and had great hair.
It got me thinking (and loving) a lot about the power of female friendship. I wrote about that here after my searing heartbreak over the summer, but hey, life's a movie, and it's good to revisit these things!
I feel like I love my female friends rationally — like in a very straightforward, definite kind of way. I never second guess them, and the best ones are just there, that you can tell anything to, do anything with, be raw or real or nothing at all, always. Romantic love can feel like more of a risk, dont you think? A leap, an uncertainty, an irrational thing. But female friendship? It keeps the blood going in my body. It keeps the spark alive in my eyes. It's the place where I can say anything, pull on a hoodie hungover, answer the door in my boomer dressing gown, jump into something with wild abandon and know I will feel both safe and alive.
We talk a lot in these Chimes about life's swing and how much we crave moving between safety and spontaneity. The best female friendships are exactly that. They believe in your dreams. Despise whoever hurt you. Deliver you coffee from the petrol station when you can't get out of bed. Save your life from Covid. Make you feel alive. Make you feel free.
Can you tell I'm a gush? I love you all. Tell your friends you love them this week.
(Also - Love you Luce, Liv and Rubes, thank you for having me here!) X
Andrew Tate blocked us
In an incredible turn of events, we've obv made enough impact on Andrew Tate thats he's blocked me on Instagram on Shit You Should Care About, The Shit Show, my personal... MY OLD FINSTA... EVERYTHING. Huuuuuge complimentary energy, great content for us, about to go and record a podcast on him - love all of this.

This week we get a REAL LIFE naughty or nice where Luce tells a story about getting trolled and we learn a lil bit about toxic fandoms (and also how to be kind online!!)
Then Liv teaches us about 'The 27 Club' and how the media had a hand in the myth-making of one of music's most talked about phenomenons. Listen wherever you get your podcasts!!

Do seasons begin at the start of the month or around the 20th?
Today I learned that NOT ALL SEASONS JUST START AT THE BEGINNING OF A MONTH! Here in New Zealand, these are what our seasons look like:
Summer: December 1st
Autumn: March 1st
Winter: June 1st
Spring: September 1st
In other areas of the world, or for those who use different worldviews to map the seasons, they go for the more profesh solstice/equinox dates, which seem to fall around the 20th of these months, and also seem like a far better/ more accurate way of doing things. In our poll:
44% of you live in places where seasons 'start' at the beginning of the month
56% of you live in places where seasons start at the solstice/ equinox dates
