🎶Beyoncé Is Backtracking🎶
OMG, so yesterday I finally went to the dentist and I'm not gonna lie, considering ya girl is going to be out of POCKET it was actually low-key a legendary experience. Turns out I do in fact have not one but two infected wisdom teeth 🤑and need quite a bit of other work done 🤑but it’s fine coz the vibes were on!!! I am now on antibiotics, am gonna book in a wee opp to get the buggers OUT and I have a BUNCH of appointments coming up to get all my other necessary work done. I love being a #adult!!
LOL let this be a reminder to all of you that you should get your teeth checked regularly (also if you’re in Tāmaki Makaurau u should hit up Natural Smilies in St Helliers) Even though my savings are soon to be suffering, I was naturally smiling by the end of my visit.

Beyoncé to Change Ableist Language on Renaissance
In an incredibly familiar story (as in, this exact thing literally just happened with Lizzo) Beyoncé is going to be removing and replacing a line in ‘Heated’ (which Drake co-wrote) because the original line said: “spazzin’ on that ass, spaz on that ass.”
I wrote about the Lizzo situation here and I basically feel the same way about this scenario.
“This is something we always say here at SYSCA. If you are going to ‘call someone out’ online, then you need to do it with grace, and allow them to make the changes we’re asking for before our eyes so that as a society (I always feel silly when I say that) we can learn from it. The whole point of calling someone else is to make the world better, and it can’t be better if we never allow (or take notice) of the changes people make when they realise they’ve done wrong.”
Also 'Beyoncé and Lizzo' is trending right now, and look at this iconic tweet from Lizzo:

The leader of Al-Qaeda has been killed in a US drone strike
Biden confirmed yesterday that the CIA has killed the leader of Al-Qaeda in Kabul while he was standing on the balcony of a safe house. The leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri has been al-Qaeda's most senior leader since 2011, and was one of the masterminds behind the 9/11 attack. He was also the world's most wanted terrorist.
Shawn Mendes cancelled his tour to look after his mental health
Today’s Culture Vulture episode is all about the state of musicians' mental health and was inspired by Shawn Mendes who recently cancelled his ‘Wonder’ tour to look after himself. Here’s what Shawn said:
“As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since I wasn’t totally prepared for the toll that being on the road would take on me,” Mendes wrote on his social media accounts. “I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away.
“After speaking more with my team and working with an incredible group of health professionals, it has become more clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally to ground myself and come back stronger,” he continued. “I unfortunately have to cancel the rest of the tour dates in North America, and the UK/Europe. We were hopeful that I might be able to pick up with the rest of the dates after some much needed time off, but at this time I have to put my health as my first priority.”
We talk about Shawn, Billie Eilish, Tom Misch, and other celebrities who’ve spoken up about the impact touring has on a person in today's Culture Vulture!

A bloody full episode of Culture Vulture this week! We start off with some more of your iconic period stories, before launching into a dicush about what we expect from musicians. Shawn Mendes and Tom Misch have both just cancelled their upcoming tours to look after themselves, which begs the question: are the musicians alright?
TikTok could be starting a ‘music service’
Spotify is quaking rn. Here’s what we know!!!
“TikTok parent company ByteDance filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in May for a service called “TikTok Music.” First spotted by Business Insider, the filing indicates that the trademark could be applied to a mobile app that would allow users to purchase, play, share and download music.”
Imagine a world where songs go viral on TikTok, and then instead of having to go to Spotify or Apple Music or wherever you get your music, you could just click on another lil tab within the TikTok app and listen to it there. I don’t know if this would be a good or a bad thing, I’m not even confident that this will come to fruition, but it’s pretty topical considering all these tech companies just seem to want to gobble each other up atm.
