It’s still ABSOLUTELY pouring down in Sydney but it’s giving me time to really sink my teeth into Drive To Survive (I know, I’m late to the party) but I’m obsessed.

Also, I haven’t actually mentioned it yet but it’s Plastic Free July and honestly, the SYSCA team are trying incredibly hard to cut down on our single-use plastic intake - and you should too!!! Even if it’s by making the smallest changes - or at least getting back in the habit of using your keep cup!!!

Gentleminions are causing mayhem

This is my favourite story today - cinemas have started having to BAN young people wearing suits to the new Minions movie because they’re causing mayhem (and not being very gentleminionly.)

Now, I know what you’re thinking… why the hell are people turning up to the Minions movie in suits??? Well, friends, it’s all part of the #gentleminions trend (because of course it is.) The #gentleminions trend was started by an 18-year-old Aussie dude who took 15 of his mates to go and see the film in Sydney - and they all wore suits. The video went viral - like viral viral - on TikTok (see a real life comment that a real life Minion left on the OG video below), and has sparked a #gentleminion movement, where thousands of other people have filmed themselves doing the same thing around the world.

Now, this would all be fine, except the #gentleminions are… not being that gentle at all.

As I said earlier - it’s all gotten a little bit out of hand. Cinemas are having to either ban #gentleminions from entering, or offer hundreds of refunds due to the noise and disruption they’re causing throughout the movie.

I personally hope that all of this marks the end of the Minions, but they seem to have incredible staying power, so I truly doubt that.

An update on the July 4th parade shooting

Yesterday, when I wrote about the tragic shooting that left seven people dead in Highland Park, Illinois, I didn’t have much information - the police were still looking for the suspect.

Police have now detained a 21-year-old, who they believe to be responsible. He apparently 'planned the attack for weeks' and wore woman's clothing as a disguise, before firing 70 rounds of bullets into the crowd.

I think it goes without saying that if you live in America nowhere feels safe. My heart aches for the kids, the parents - every single person whose life was at risk just for attending a fucking parade.
