Yesterday I had one of the craziest days of my LIFE. Something super weird and beautiful happened which really threw me for six (is this the saying?) and as much as I want to talk to you all about it now, I need some time to make sense of it all - maybe I’ll even put it in our book?
I also realised that I haven’t filled you in on what I’ve been reading/ watching/ listening to in a while - SORRY!
Watching:
I’ve been rewatching Sex Education (I’ve even gotten Normy to start watching it) but haven’t made it to Season 4, and I’ve heard that it’s going to leave me disappointed maybe?
I also need to watch Crazy Stupid Love, When Harry Met Sally, and You’ve Got Mail - please hold me accountable!
Reading:
I’ve been rereading Watching Women & Girls for our Book Club
I’m about to start a book called Young Mungo that I know VERY little about but one of you recommended it to me and I take your recs VERY seriously!!!
I also just picked up 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl by Mona Awad (who wrote Bunny which kinda freaked me out), but this one looks good!
Listening:
I also In terms of podcasts, I’m going between Ahead of the Curve by Coco Moco and Cut the Camera with the Sturniolo Triplets.
Oh, and music??? SHE CALLS ME BACK, NOAH KAHAN AND KACEY MUSGRAVES!!
Love you all - let me know what you’re watching/ reading/ listening to plz!!!!

Crushes! Why does it feel like forever since we've spoken? Probably because it has been / we've been in the whirlwind of book writing and Lisbon life, which I can safely say tips you off the planet for a hot minute.

Bel Chimes In: On Girl Time v Guy Time
This week's Chime comes off the back of where all good things begin — at a wine bar hashing out the world's peaks and troughs and problems, when someone mentioned they were on 'Guy time.'
He pointed to Luce and said, 'You're younger, you've got so much time,' to me (6 years older), 'You're older, you have like... waaaay less time,' and about himself, 'Me, I'm on Guy Time. I can date women way younger and have kids whenever I want — it's just the truth.'
Our mouths sat open for about 20 seconds after he said it.
Can everyone shut up about everyone else's time? You have no idea what people are going through, their angsts, how old they feel, whether they want kids, are trying to, feel ok enough about the state of the world that they want to give it a go. Maybe they're desperately trying to find someone to meet to do it. Maybe they've given up. Maybe they haven't thought about it. Maybe they can't. Maybe they don't want to. Maybe, just maybe time isn't even a gendered thing at all? There are undeniable truths, but then there is something else completely: your time and the choices you're able to make about what to do with it. This is not always fair or ever equal.
A scary thing that happens as you get older; you're faced with your own mortality, purpose, and realities of what the world might be in the future in a way that hasn't happened before. But my time? That's on me.

Hi, I haven't commented before, but I wanted to say that I really appreciate that you're not making a statement on the Israel-Palestine conflict and pointing multiple, dependable sources. While there is a lot of nuance with this conflict, I have been seeing quite a lot of misinformation (really appreciate the article by AP news) shared even by journalists that is later debunked or reported as "unsubstantiated claims", as by the LA Times for example. I have also seen people post about the rhetoric that is used by journalists to describe Israelis vs Palestinians and the conflict, and this reminded me to look at the words being used in news reports to see if the authors are expressing bias. There is a really great tiktok posted recently by the Jewish author @simkern where they talk about this, among other aspects of the conflict. I don't want to start any arguments about this topic, but being so far removed (culturally and physically) from what's happening over there made me realize I am very susceptible to any bias shown by a journalist (or influencer) and it's so important to look at the facts that have evidence to back up that they are, oh I don't know, FACTS! Love your newsletters and podcasts btw! Once I have an income I am for sure upgrading to a paid subscription! :)
appreciate y'all pointing us to sources about Palestine and Israel rather than just throwing opinions out
