"I'm in the beginning stages of burnout. How do I manage?"
Eat, sleep, work, workout, work, repeat — why can't the world just let me live already??
Wait, But What? is our weekly advice column for paid supporters. If you’ve got a burning life question (whether it’s how to phoenix out of a dark spot, or how to stand up to a boss who thinks you're just in the room to grab a flat white) drop your question here and we might just answer it!
“Bel, Bel, Bel I need your help:
I’m in the beginning stages of burnout. How the hell do I manage this? Because of work, I can't really look forward to the weekend because it's like I'm just in this endless cycle of more more more. I just want to cocoon, but then I stress myself on not getting things done. I grew up in a work-first family too, so even though I know and STRESS the importance of Work/Life Balance, I feel like I can't achieve it."
Dear slow singe,
If there’s one thing I won’t ever shut up about, it’s the role of work in our lives and how we can survive it better. Burned out? Been there, done that, and will risk my life every goddamn day and night to never go back there again. So, below is my best advice to keep you from the sleepout of your parents’ house being dropped a bowl of salt and vinegar chips at the door and left to binge-watch Dawson’s Creek until you can get your life back together again.
So what the hell do you do? Ironically, we must get to work.
