My angels!!!! Hi!!!!!! Have you missed me? I’ve been a little bit OOO because I’m in NEW YORK FKN CITY, sweating my figurative balls off and facing the many trials and tribulations of being me and trying to have a smooth travel experience (it never happens, and I will be writing you an entire diary edition all about it - don’t you worry.)

To be honest, I’m REALLY surprised they even let me into the country - and it was not without the scariest grilling I’ve ever had (again - I’ll tell you about it in the bonus newsy), but for now. Let me do some news, shall I?

Tech and the city: Luce goes to Samsung Galaxy Unpacked

Ok first of all - I just need to tell you all how UNREAL it is that I was the only New Zealand media outlet at this HUGE fkn event? The fact that Samsung has chosen to take me as their Gen Z on the ground is so cute and cool, and such a win for independent media tbh.

I’m here in NYC with Samsung Simon (my chaperone heheh) and it has been… anything but smooth, which I will expand on in my bonus weekend newsletter.

Last time I reported on Unpacked, it was giving Elle Woods in a sea of tech bros. This time it was giving Carrie Bradshaw if she were a #womaninSTEM.

Let’s chat about it!!!!

Everything that went wrong:

• Our flight got cancelled before we even left NZ

• I spilt red wine all over myself in the airport before our 20 hours of travel

• And then broke the hairdryer trying to clean myself up

• I got GRILLED by the dude at the airport so hard that I wasn’t even sure I was going to be let into the USA

• When we landed, the hotel we were meant to stay at had cancelled our stay, leaving us with nowhere to sleep for the night (there is a longer story to go with this, which I will share in my bonus newsletter)

• NEW YORK CITY IS SO HOT I’M MELTING

Everything that went right:

• It is fucking amazing to be WORKING in NEW YORK CITY!!

• The martinis and bagels are UNREAL.

• Samsung Unpacked as an actual event was SO cute - I love watching people nerd out over their interests - this was some people’s version of a Harry Styles concert!!!

• The new foldable Samsung phones are actually LEGIT - so they unveiled the new ‘flip’ and the new ‘fold’ phones and I have some things to say about them.

  • It’s literally like having a little tablet in your pocket, but it folds up so small I almost don’t believe it’s REAL.

• The most important thing for me is that there is a PINK FLIP PHONE (technically it’s a ‘coral red’ but it’s giving hot pink tbh:

  

• The cameras on both of the phones are unreal (you have no idea how long it took Samsung Simon and I to get these all balancing):

  

They also unveiled some new watches

• As someone who is already SO connected to everything, the idea of wearing a watch that kept me even MORE in the loop isn’t for me, but I know it IS for some people, so if you want to know more about the watches, read about them here!!

SPORT YOU SHOULD CARE ABOUT: RED BULL FIRED CHRISTIAN HORNER AFTER 20 YEARS???

So, Christian Horner - aka Mr Red Bull Racing, aka Geri Halliwell’s husband, aka the longest-serving team principal in Formula 1 - was officially sacked - and I’m not really sure why.

Here’s what I can tell you:

“Red Bull did not give a reason for the decision in a statement Wednesday, but thanked Horner for his work and said he will ‘forever remain an important part of our team history.”

And here’s what Max said:

"From my first race win, to four world championships, we have shared incredible successes... Thank you for everything, Christian!"

There’s defs more to this story, but for now, Horner will be replaced by Laurent Mekies (previously of Racing Bulls.) I’ll be following this one closely 👀
