Yesterday started at the crack of dawn to get me from our campsite in Dunedin to the airport, and then on a flight to Welly (and thanks to Ben I made it for my 5:50am check-in!!) I will say that I'm already kinda missing our trusty Campervan, kindly referred to as 'Shit You Should Camp About' so I do need to give one last HUGE shoutout to Britz for trusting us with her. It was so cozy and every campsite was AMAZING so I would HIGHLY recommend doing a trip like this (maybe less work and more play next time tho...)

Anyway, what am I doing in Welly you might be wondering?? Well in a very full circle moment, I came to speak at Semi Permanent - a sick design conference. The reason it's full circle is coz it's held in the St James Theatre, and the last time I was here was when I was about 15 watching One Direction perform. Now, I'm on the stage getting to talk about how being a fan of One Direction helped us build this cool lil business. Lots of feels 🥺

I'm here for the rest of the day to attend the conference and listen to some other amazing people, and I fly home tonight. But I know what you're all thinking... did I ever find somewhere to live? NO I DID NOT! For any of you that may have forgotten, I have to move out of my house this weekend, and we have been looking for MONTHS for a new spot, and applying for HEAPS and as of right now NO ONE HAS ACCEPTED OUR APPLICATIONS! So I'm flying home to potentially put my things in a storage unit and crash with Rubes and Liv (as if two weeks in a camper together wasn't enough.) Maybe Britz will just let me keep Shit You Should Camp About??

Liz Truss Resigned as UK PM

After 45 incredibly bumpy days in office, Liz Truss has resigned from her role as England's PM, making it the second Tory leadership changeover in four months.

Her resignation came after a bit of a rebellion from Tory MPs - the U-turn she made on her economic plan for the country didn't do very much for her when it came to gaining authority as a new leader - so Tory MPs kinda revolted against her.

She's said that her successor will be elected next week, and even old mate Bojo is said to be 'considering bids.' God help us all.

Wisconsin taxpayers’ group asks Supreme Court to block Biden student debt relief program

Because we can't have nice things! Basically what's happened here is that a Wisconsin taxpayers group have asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan - and they're not alone:

Six Republican-led states — Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and South Carolina — are trying to block Biden’s plan, arguing that the president doesn’t have the power to issue nationwide debt relief without Congress. They’re also claiming that the policy would harm private companies that service some federal student loans by reducing their business.

The main obstacle for those hoping to foil the president’s action is finding a plaintiff who can prove they’ve been harmed by the policy. “Such injury is needed to establish what courts call ‘standing,’” said Laurence Tribe, a Harvard law professor.

This student loan forgiveness plan, for anyone who needs a refresh, aims to cancel up to $20,000 in student debt for millions of borrowers, and goes into effect this weekend, with 8 million people having already applied since the applications went live.

Actress Anna May Wong - long thought of to be the first Chinese American film star in Hollywood - is about to be the first Asian American woman to be featured on US currency! As part of the American Women Quarters programme (an effort to feature notable women on quarters) Anna May Wong will join some other incred women like:

Maya Angelou – celebrated writer, performer, and social activist
Dr. Sally Ride – physicist, astronaut, educator, and first American woman in space
Wilma Mankiller – first woman elected principal chief of the Cherokee Nation
Nina Otero-Warren – a leader in New Mexico’s suffrage movement and the first woman superintendent of Santa Fe public schools

Like something straight out of a movie, a group of young men (teens) have been going around to New York art galleries - disguised as art students - and stealing things. Now, they're not stealing art which was what I initially assumed (but that would have been kinda random and logistically difficult), they're distracting the gallery workers and stealing things like handbags and headphones.

“Couple of kids asking real questions about the artwork,” writes gallerist Cindy Rucker, recalling how she was duped on an online forum for members of the New Art Dealers Alliance, NADA Noodle. “One distracted me while the other grabbed my AmEx out of my wallet. They even gave me their emails so I could send them JPEGS!”
