When Missouri School Wanted to Rename Their Building, They All Agreed to Honor the Longtime Janitor (Good News Network)
This story is so fucking cute. When a K-8 school in Missouri wanted to rename a building, they spent a lot of time debating what to call it. They considered the obvious - famous people from the state or maybe a national icon who’d inspire the kids - in the end though, they went with someone who actually meant the most to everyone there: Claudene Wilson, the school custodian.
Jusr read this 🥺
“The 64-year-old has been at the Swedeborg District III Elementary School for decades, working not only as a custodian-janitor, but plumber, landscaper, school bus driver, in cafeteria service, and even as a greeter for the kids when they arrive at school.
At a certain point, she told CBS News’ ‘On the Road’ with Steve Hartman, she would be working 13-hour days.
Why did she tolerate such long hours?
“The kids,” she said.”
A Cloned Ferret Has Given Birth for the First Time in History, Marking a Win for Her Endangered Species (Smithsonian)
Big news in conservation!!!! For the first time ever (in the U.S.), a cloned endangered animal has given birth to healthy babies! Antonia, a black-footed ferret, just made history - not only as a mum - but as the first-ever cloned ferret to bring new life into the world.
Earlier this summer, Antonia welcomed two little bubs at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute in Virginia. This is a huge deal because it shows how cloning could help boost genetic diversity and save endangered species like her for the future.
AND LOOK HOW CUTE THE BABIES ARE!!!!!
Dog Rescued After it was Seen Floating Down Canal on Shopping Cart–And Gets Adopted into Loving Home (Good News Network)
Ok so I have a feeling that a lot of these stories will be about animals, but who’s mad about it?? Not me!!!
Meet Dorothea, a dog that was spotted floating down an Arizona canal on a submerged shopping cart:
No one knows how long she was stranded, but luckily someone spotted her, contacted the Arizona Humane Society, and there was a whole rescue mission to save her. After news had spread about her trauma, Dorothea has found a new home and is now living with a family in Youngtown, Arizona 🥺
Rats with tiny backpacks are being used to sniff out illegally trafficked items (Audacy)
“Officials working to combat wildlife smugglers may have a new, furry tool to help sniff out illegally trafficked items: giant rats with tiny backpacks.”
AND LOOK AT THESE DUDES:
These African giant pouched rats have some serious skills - in the past, they’ve been trained to sniff out explosives and even the bacteria that causes tuberculosis, but now, researchers have taken things up a notch and trained these little dudes to detect the scent of pangolin scales, elephant ivory, rhino horn, and African blackwood—all of which are super endangered and in serious danger of disappearing.
I take back everything bad I’ve ever said about rats.
And finally, some hopeful news from the US election, would you believe it? (Harpers Bazaar)
All of this is via Harpers Bazaar so go there for more context!!!

Tulsa, Oklahoma Elects Their First Black Mayor
“Democrat Monroe Nichols will be Tulsa, Oklahoma’s first-ever Black mayor, clinching victory over opponent Karen Keith with a 15,000 vote difference, according to KJRH-TV. Nichols delivered his acceptance speech in front of photos of Black Wall Street, one of the most prosperous Black communities in Oklahoma that was ultimately devastated by the 1921 Tulsa race massacre.”
Kentucky's Supreme Court Will Have a Black Woman on the Bench for the First Time
Pamela Goodwine became the first Black woman to be elected to Kentucky’s Supreme Court when she won her race on Tuesday. Goodwine is no stranger to making history; she previously became the first Black woman to serve as a district and, later, circuit judge in Lexington, and she also was the first Black woman on the Kentucky Court of Appeals.
I love you so much, and I hope this gave your brain a little break!!!
Thank you for this Luce, I think we all needed it today. Sending love to any Americans who see this comment xxx
Thank you for making this issue about the good news 🫶
Also seeing the stats that only 12 black women were ever elected to US Senate explained a lot about yesterday’s election to me.
