🍉 OUR HARRY STYLES SURPRISE 🌻
I know you're all here for the big Harry Styles news, but before we get to it, I should tell you, my angels, that it has happened. Yesterday, ur beloved Luce tested posi for Covid. I have managed to go 803 days without getting the little bugger (that's since it entered NZ) and now ya gal is down! As of right now I'm feeling okay, but if the newsy (or any of our SYSCA content) is a lil lighter or a lil sillier for the next week or so, it's because THE ENTIRE SYSCA TEAM (EVEN SQUISH) HAS COVID!
Don't worry though - we're isolating, we're hydrating, and by next week it'll be like nothing happened (I hope!)
This does mean that if you had tickets to Tech You Should Care About it's been postponed for a week - but don't worry! We're working on something to get you through it! Now, for the main event...
WE'RE HOSTING 2 HARRY STYLES LISTENING PARTIES

Bel Chimes In: Pulling The Clutch Out
Well, well, well, where do I begin with this one? As always, this is another favourite phrase of mine and this week, what better way to explain it than a real-life example of Luce and I really living our truths?
I need to profess (don’t @ me) that I don't know all the words to Taylor Swift songs. And this is largely because when she came onto the scene I was deep in my indie girl phase listening to Death Cab For Cutie and Sufjan Stevens and falling in love with boys in tight jeans and floppy hair. SO, when Luce invited me to a two-storied Red (Taylors Version) + SOUR themed party on Saturday, I had to go deep. I had to do an urgent thesis. I had to pull the clutch out.
I cooked dinner to Jealousy, Jealousy. Walked to work with All Too Well on repeat. I read articles. I listened to podcasts. I. Went. Into. Training. And honestly? I wish I went this deep when I went through my summer of horrific heartbreak.
So, anyway, Saturday rolls round and Luce rocks up to hoon a bottle of fizzy wine on my balcony. We swap secrets, go to a drinks and then onto the party which I can only describe as having the energy of high school afterball (after prom/formal party for those not in NZ!) but everyone is slightly older and more fashionable. I could go as far to say it's Tuesday as I write this and Luce and I are still recovering. From pulling the clutch out.
You can pull the clutch out for a party or a project or a person or a thing. It’s to carpe fucking diem. It’s to c’est bloody la vie. It's about throwing your energy forward into being something...magnificent.
*Luce note: sometimes when you pull the clutch out too far you get Covid. This has been your official warning.
The Minions soundtrack is actually lit

Yesterday I came across an article titled ‘Why Is the New 'Minions' Movie Soundtrack So Stacked?’ and OMG, Paper magazine is NOT lying. First of all, it’s produced by Jack Antonoff (what I would do to be in the room/his mind during those negotiations) but listen to this lineup:
Minions: The Rise of Gru:
01 Diana Ross [ft. Tame Impala] - Turn Up The Sunshine
02 Brittany Howard [ft. Verdine White] - Shining Star (Earth, Wind & Fire)
03 St. Vincent - Funkytown (Lipps Inc.)
04 BROCKHAMPTON - Hollywood Swinging (Kool & The Gang)
05 Kali Uchis - Desafinado (Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto)
06 Caroline Polachek - Bang Bang (Nancy Sinatra)
07 Thundercat - Fly Like an Eagle (Steve Miller Band)
08 Phoebe Bridgers - Goodbye To Love (The Carpenters)
09 Bleachers - Instant Karma! (John Lennon)
10 Weyes Blood - You’re No Good (Linda Ronstadt)
11 Gary Clark Jr. - Vehicle (The Ides of March)
12 H.E.R. - Dance to the Music (Sly and The Family Stone)
13 Tierra Whack - Black Magic Woman (Santana)
14 Verdine White - Cool
15 Jackson Wang - Born To Be Alive (Patrick Hernandez)
16 The Minions - Cecilia (Simon & Garfunkel)
17 G.E.M. - Bang Bang (Nancy Sinatra)
18 RZA - Kung Fu Suite
19 Heitor Pereira - Minions: The Rise of Gru Score Suite
Caroline Polachek singing ‘Bang Bang’ and Phoebe Bridgers singing ‘Goodbye To Love’ is almost enough to make me go and see the movie, just so I can see how the songs are used in situ. Almost.
Sex Education and Sally Rooney!
An old Culture Vulture for ya because Liv has Covid :( — open.spotify.com
Still a bloody good ep tho, if I do say so myself!
