Philippine Elections & DeuxMoi on HBO
💘HEY! YOU! IF YOU HAVEN'T FILLED OUT THIS SURVEY YET YOU REALLY SHOULD! 💘
Thank u my angels for all the kind words for Rubes and Liv!!! Funnily enough, Squish (who's just started his travels in the States) has Covid too! I am but a lone, non-covidy ranger right now, trying to lay low and keep healthy for the team.
To keep my spirits up, I did the ‘what would you do if I was a bug?’ meme to all the members of my family, and here's what they said:
And my other little brother James LITERALLY WOULDN'T HURT A FLY, so if he was here I reckon he would gently usher me outside (to keep me safe from Ben.)

DeuxMoi is getting a show with HBO Max
According to Indie Wire, DeuxMoi, our fave (or least fave) gossip account is getting a damn show! Here’s what they said:
Well, this is one way to get over the Sunday Scaries! HBO Max has officially greenlit a one-hour drama series based on famed gossip Instagram account DeuxMoi’s upcoming novel, “Anon Pls.”
So DeuxMoi is publishing a ‘fictionalised memoir’ called “Anon Pls” (written alongside New York Times bestselling author Jessica Goodman), which is going to be published on November 8th. And now, along with the book, comes a drama series based on its premise:
“Anon Pls” centers on celeb stylist assistant Cricket Lopez, who revamps her Instagram account on a drunken whim to shine a light on the underbelly of Hollywood. Per the official synopsis, the novel forces Cricket to face facts: She is now famous, although no one knows that she is behind the account. From steering salacious gossip to fact-checking her own personal steamy romance and wild ride to stardom, “Anon Pls” charts the rise of DeuxMoi from DeuxMoi themselves.”
I’m picturing a real-life gossip girl and… I kinda love the way DeuxMoi has turned their Instagram into a full-fledged machine. Go off!
Elon wants to let Trump back on Twitter
This happened RIGHT before I was about to send this off, so this will be quick, but here's what Elon said at a Financial Times conference on Tuesday, according to The New York Times:
“I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump, I think that was a mistake, because it alienated a large part of the country, and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice"
He went on to call the ban of Trump “morally wrong and flat-out stupid,” a group of words I could use to describe another one of Twitter's recent decisions...
Don't worry though - Trump says he's sticking to his platform, 'Truth Social.'
The Philippine elections were... not good
Here's a line directly out of The Guardian:
"Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the son and namesake of the late dictator, has won a landslide presidential election victory, signalling an extraordinary rehabilitation for one of the country’s most notorious political families."
Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr ran with the slogan “Together we shall rise again” a call back to his father's brutal authoritarian regime. Under his father, thousands of political opponents were 'tortured, arrested and disappeared,' and when he was finally ousted, the family fled into exile.
There are so many nuances to this story, but here's a really good timeline of the Marcos dynasty:
To get Bongbong into power there was a social media campaign to rebrand the old Marcos era, "not as the period of martial law with its terrible human rights abuses, corruption and near-economic collapse, but as a golden age of crime-free prosperity."
"This began at least a decade ago, with hundreds of deceptively-edited videos being uploaded to Youtube, which were then reposted on sympathetic Facebook pages.
These persuaded millions of Filipinos that the vilification of the Marcoses after their downfall was unfair, that the stories of unrivalled greed were untrue."
Collaborative fact-checking venture Tsek.ph found that up to the end of April, 92% of online disinformation about the Marcos campaign was in its favour, whereas 96% about his main rival, Vice President Leni Robredo, was negative - including some nasty slanders against her.
It's really a huge deal that this ruling family - who were driven out of power 36 years ago - are coming back to the presidential palace. The Marcos family have never apologised for the abuse they waged, and they haven't returned most of the treasure that they're accused of stealing.
There's so much to unpack here, and as usual, there are people doing a waaaay better job than me, so you should read 'What the Marcos' return to power means for the Philippines' and basically everything else you need to know, here.

A list of companies that are helping their employees pay for abortions
With the news of Roe V Wade being potentially overturned, a small (but growing) list of companies have said that they will cover different parts of the abortion process in order to keep those who work for them safe.
Tesla (based in Texas) have said that they’ll "cover travel and lodging costs for employees to receive health-care services not offered in the states they reside." This policy has apparently been around since 2021.
Citigroup and Yelp have offered to cover travel expenses for employees seeking abortions not offered in their home states.
Amazon and Apple and Levi Strauss & Co. have said they would offer reimbursements for employees in Texas who have to travel outside of the state for abortions.
Bumble and Match Group (Tinder, Plenty of Fish, OkCupid and Hinge) have both created relief funds for people affected by incoming abortion laws.
Salesforce said ‘it is willing to relocate workers from Texas due to the state's new abortion law.’
Hope we hear from a bunch more US based companies soon! I'm pretty sure there are a few more of them XD

If we had a meeting booked at 12pm and I asked you to move it forward two hours... what time would we move it to?
So it's DEFINITELY 10AM, and my brain struggles to see how it's anything other than that, but a bunch of people see it as 2pm. And when I say a bunch, I mean
67% think it's 10am
33% think it's 2pm
Apparently, it's all to do with how you view time. I see time as coming towards me, whereas some people see time as though they're moving towards it (like, moving a meeting forward is moving it into the future.)
