Reintroducing Our Book Club (and next month's pick!!)
Spoiler: it's Good Material by Dolly Alderton!!!
Launching our Book Club last year was honestly one of the BEST parts of running this thing. First of all, you’ve given us SO many good new recs. Second, you’ve encouraged us to read books that we wouldn’t otherwise have touched, and thirdly it let us do some REALLY sick things. We were lucky enough to interview a bunch of authors (among them were Curtis Sittenfeld from Romantic Comedy and Rebecca Yarros from Fourth Wing) AND host our first ever Book Club live hangs - and honestly? Doing all of this was kinda the highlight of my year.
This year you can expect more of that (of course), but you can also expect to help us WRITE OUT OWN BOOK, which is a very cool thing to get to do together.
A reminder of what the Book Club is:
Shit You Should Read About is for the hotties who aren’t gonna sit through a dense text for the sole purpose of impressing a snob. It’s for the ones who suffer under the paradox of choice and simply can’t pick from the endless stream of new releases hitting the shelves each day. We probs haven't read the classics, we def couldn't tell you the difference between the use of omniscient third person and the scintillating use of sympathetic background (lol, throwing back to high school English there).
But, we can tell you that life is too short to read shitty books, so let us shepherd you through some old faves, some new releases (carefully selected by us AND you) and unpack them together in a completely un-pretench way as we go along. Sound cute?
If it was your New Year’s quest to get more into reading, then we think that reading one book a month with us seems like a cute way to get back into it <3
What you can expect:
A bonus monthly podcast where we unpack the book, make assumptions about the type of cocktail the characters would drink, what they would wear to a chic party and on a hungover Sunday, why we think they’re great and what the writing ~ did ~ for us
Chat threads for us to love/hate/crush on the characters
Real-time reading prompts (to remind you to choose the book over TikTok) in the Close Friends
Interviews with the authors if they think we’re chic enough
Virtual bookclub hangs/ meetups
