Here are some of the responses that made me feel 🥺🥺🥺
From Zoe:
Hi love!
I very much relate to the idea of romanticizing what's really a mundane night. I live in NYC and this past weekend we got hit with a huge snowstorm. On Friday night my roommates and I made drinks and just sat around talking, and at one point we turned off the lights to be able to watch the snow fall outside. As we stood huddled around the window watching the snowflakes fall I thought to myself "this is happiness. I love this feeling." And it made me a little emotional. I'm living the life I always dreamed I would, and I'm glad you are too ❤️
To romanticizing our 20s”
From Kim:
“Hey Luce
Your newsletter this morning reminded me of a quote I loved from an okay book, Modern Lovers by Emma Straub, and I thought I would share it with you.
“It was always nice to carry a big bowl of something over to Zoey’s house, because it felt like being back in that potluck-rich, money-poor twilight zone known as one’s twenties.”
From Derik:
“Hi bestie,
As someone who is in their late 20's and thinks about existential questions a lot, I feel like you NAILED the description of what our 20s and 30s should look like. Friends, wine, banter, beach, coffee, and just the joy of being. No stress from work or pressure of performance - us being ourselves with our friends and being in the moment with people.
We have been taught our entire lives that we need to be a certain way and perform a certain way as adults, but I am starting to believe that if we are not with our friends and living in a community with friends, sharing the mundane things of life and also the exciting things then we are not really living.
LIFE IS NOT MEANT TO BE LIVED BEHIND A DESK IN AN OFFICE, BUT WITH THOSE WE LOVE.
From Eryn:
Kia ora Luce, that's EXACTLY what your 20s & 30s should be! I just turned 40 and can confirm it continues in your 40s (if you want it to!) Life is fucking great and none of what you said sounded dumb or pretentious - it was self-aware and full of gratitude and I bloody loved it!
From Sara:
Your beautiful description of your day with friends brought tears of happiness to my eyes. As someone whose 20's (and even 30's!) are now memories, I can confirm days like that are precious and exactly what you should be doing at your age.
Please never stop replying to me with your thoughts/hopes/dreams!!

Spotify Will Add Content Warnings to Podcasts Discussing COVID-19
Liv and I are recording a whole ass Culture Vulture episode on the politics of Spotify this morning (to be in your ears tomorrow) so I’ll keep this update kinda brief, but Spotify, in response to all the criticism about Covid-19 misinformation, are adding content advisories to “any podcast episode that includes a discussion about COVID-19.” When you click it, you’ll be directed to a “dedicated COVID-19 Hub,” which will provide resources and information from scientists, physicians, academics, and public-health authorities.
This story is interesting (and again we’ll get into it waaaaay more on the podcast) because it feels like it's part of the “are you a platform or a publisher argument?” If Spotify weren’t paying Joe Rogan 100mil to be on their platform then they’d be able to argue that they are simply a platform and have no role in censoring or editing the content that goes up. Since that’s not the case, and they pay him a shit tonne of money, they’ve taken on a level of responsibility as a ‘publisher,’ and kinda have to take that seriously (same deal with Substack when they advance certain people money to write newsletters.)
Anyway, Joe Rogan has responded (slightly gaslight-y at the beginning) but we’ll talk about the rest of that on the podcast!
Canada’s “freedom” convoy is hella embarro
A bunch of you emailed me wanting me to talk about this, and then right before I went to research it, my bill-gates-5G-ivermectin level anti-vax family member shared it on Facebook, which confirmed this was gonna be the dumbest story ever. Basically, after Justin Trudeau's government brought in a vaccine mandate for truckers wanting to cross the US/Canada border earlier this month, a bunch of them got together and… convoyed to the capital.
People who’ve gotten (there’s my hated lazy word again) involved have done the type of things you’d expect them to do like: wave swastika flags, dance on the tomb of the unknown soldier, harass staff at a soup kitchen demanding free meals (after they were turned away by restaurants because they weren’t wearing masks.) Some real stand up behaviour here! And look who’s backing them!
It’s always important to remember that these people are a loud minority and that actually about 90% of Canada's 120,000 cross-border truckers are now vaccinated, which is in line with the country's adult population. Oh and also our mate Joe Rogan has shown his support for the convoy too, but we'll get into that on the pod.

Sexy M&M's, BoJo's partying and a whole lot of updates! - The Shit Show — open.spotify.com
A nice mix of high brow and low brow discussions today team! From The Simpsons predicting more things, to why the green M&M can't be sexy anymore, to updates on Ukraine, Tonga, Boris Johnson and Peng Shuai - after listening to this episode there'll be nothing you don't know!
Justin Bieber bought a dumb bored ape
Again, if you don’t know what a Bored Ape is, you can listen to me talk about it here, but for now, just know that old mate Justin Bieber just bought one. For $1.3million. In fact, he bought this exact one that I’m showing you right now that I got for free. Rich people eh??
Also, the original artist of these precious Bored Apes - Seneca - isn’t being compensated very well at all considering how much they’re selling for these days. Who are NFT's benefitting again?
Cold or reheated pizza?
Damn, the amount of you that said 'room temp because it's still in the box sitting on the bench' are either gross or seriously my people (depending on my standards that day.) I was still shocked that 53% of you reheat it (more than I thought) and 47% eat it cold! Cold for the win I say!!
