Well That Was (Olivia) Wilde 😳
My besties!!! Lil pre-edish note from me to ask you with all the love in my heart, to please become a ✨SYSCA Supporter✨ if you have the means. We REALLY need you, and it honestly FILLS MY CUP so much to see all your cute names supporting the media you love. That's all 🥺💘 xx
I gotta start off by saying - when you write about us in your uni assignments/ talk about us in your classrooms/ offices it's the COOLEST THING EVER. A few weeks ago, newsy reader Grace said that her whole homeroom reads the newsy, and they discuss it each day 🥺🥺🥺It made me think… you should all try and get your schools/ classes/ offices to sub to the newsy & do the mundane polls together each day or something!? Send me pics! Get me involved! Be a SYSCAmbassador for us (lol.) Something about SYSCA creeping into the ✨real world✨ is just so cool and I’m so keen to see/ hear more of it.
For now though, I got this cool email from Chiara who’s doing their uni assignment on me/SYSCA:
“This is super random, but I am currently enrolled in a "Leadership" course at uni this semester and have to write an assignment on an effective leader of my choosing. I chose to write about you as your advocacy and dedication to the sharing of knowledge are such admirable gifts you provide to your audience every dang day and you're a huge inspiration! I love reading your newsy each morning (night actually, I'm currently in Italy, not to brag hehe) and I have never been more excited to write an assignment?!!?! I hope you realise how much good you're doing!
🥺🥺🥺 And Lauren is doing a presentation on SYSCA!!
“heyyyy luce! just wanted to let you know I'm doing a presentation on SYSCA for my social media journalism class hehe so thank u for being a very good social media journalist”
Seriously I’m dying. I love u all so much.
Keep spreading the good word, and always let me know if you choose to study/ research SYSCA - I'd love to read anything you write (maybe you'll teach me a thing or two!)
🥺 If you want to pay for the media you love and make sure I can continue to do this for you, PLEASE, become a SYSCA supporter here - I need you! 🥺

Let’s start off with another excellent meme from a newsy reader
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. HANNAH, YOU ARE DOING THE MOST.
Olivia Wilde was served with custody papers WHILE SHE WAS ON STAGE
YEP. In what could be a scene from a movie (or a publicity stunt), yesterday, while Olivia Wilde was on stage at CinemaCon talking about ‘Don’t Worry Darling,’ someone at the front of the stage slid an envelope over to her - an envelope that looked like it could contain a new script or something - when it in fact contained child custody papers. It was labelled ‘Private and Confidential’ and when she picked it up she said: "This is for me?" before proceeding to open it on stage. She then realised what they were, calmly put the papers back into the envelope and remained cool as a cucumber.
Jason Sudeikis - her ex, and the father of her kids (and hopefully mine one day) said he had NO IDEA of the circumstances that these papers were going to be delivered under:
"Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner," his team said.
I have so many questions. What is this company?? (I don’t wanna give them the extra PR tho), and is it this easy to get things to celebs/ interrupt them on stage??? I wanna know more!

NEW EPISODE OF THE SHIT SHOW
Elon Musk Thinks Buying Twitter Isn't Rocket Science — open.spotify.com
Squish and I are back, talking about the biggest news of the week - Elon Musk buying Twitter. We give all our hot takes before also covering an Egyptian TikToker's jail sentence & a plane that Red Bull failed to give wings (it crashed.) Tune in!
Two months of horror and resilience: 7 takeaways from the invasion of Ukraine
Compiled by Grid’s global team, this is a hefty (but worth it) look into some of the major learnings after two months of the war Putin started. Here are some of the takeaways:
It’s been harder than expected for the Russian military
“In the run-up to war, the analysis and news coverage were consistent: Russia’s military (more than 1 million active members) could quickly and easily overwhelm Ukraine’s (roughly 200,000 active personnel).”
What we’ve seen though, is that Ukraine's military and civilian resistance has proved not only significant but incredibly honourable. They’ve managed to hold off the Russians more effectively than anyone expected and have received significant international support along the way.
NATO has made a comeback
How many of us had forgotten about/ not given a thought to NATO since we studied it at school/ uni?? SAME. Putin, however, had been letting NATO live in his head rent free for a long time, and now, thanks to his own doing, we’re ALL thinking about NATO again, and the alliance is actually stronger:
“John McLaughlin, a former acting director of the CIA, told Grid. “Not a weaker, more fractured NATO, but an alliance that is better armed, more united and hugging more of Russia’s borders than before his attack on Ukraine.”
As stated in the headline of the article, there are five more very important takeaways from the two months of fighting so far, so you should probs go and finish reading it.
I wanna watch this new movie and it’s not just because Pete Davidson is in it
Bodies Bodies Bodies - a new horror-comedy from A24 is a “minefield of Gen Z zeitgeist speak—gaslighting, silenced, and triggered, oh my!—set against a bloody slasher mystery.” I love people who poke fun at Gen Z and actually understand us and make it work, so I kinda can’t wait to watch this.
Also, one of Pete’s lines is:
“I just look like I fuck, you know what I mean? I look like I fuck. And that’s the vibe I like to put out there.”
Here's the trailer:
Do you eat the end bit of a loaf of bread? What’s that bit even called?
A CLOSE ONE!!!
49% of you eat the end bit
51% don’t (tut tut)
And then another question came up - wtf do you actually call that bit?
18% Heel
24% Butt
49% Crust
8% Other
But newsy reader Flo just wants her knob:
“I have a great story about today's mundane poll about the bread.
So when I was younger I fucking loved the end bits of baguettes and I'd always insist on having it, like my adoration about that specific piece was widely known. There's a catch though- I (innocently) called it the knobby bit.
Now let me take to a special family meal (probs Easter??) when my mum bought loads of really nice bread, including baguettes, for like a buffet type scenario. This one baguette was cut up into slices, and the ends were there, ready for the taking. My sister grabbed one of these pieces before I could get to it, so I proceeded to angrily proclaim "she took my knob!!"
It was met with a lot of stifled laughter and I sat there innocently, arms crossed, wanting my knob.”
So cute.
PS: I got this response from Shae which has inspired today’s mundane poll: 'do you know what a bikkie is?' Here's what Shae said:
“Hey, long time reader, first-time replier. Just wondering what in the world bikkies are?”
Here’s how I used it in context:
“Why does the Oreo cream only stick to one of the bikkies? MIT researchers explain (MIT Tech Review)”
Poll up on insta now, results on Monyay :P
