Good morning crushes!!! Still reeling because yesterday we announced, oh, a giant thing:
You’re probs sick of me gushing about it, so I’m just gonna leave it at that but ugh, you’re making our dreams come true, and that’s fucking amazing. I spent the weekend trying (and failing) to escape the heat here in Lisbon, I finished reading Cleopatra and Frankenstein (only to find the hype was TOTALLY worth it) and bought two NEW books (which I’m going to post over in our Book Club chat.) Oh, and also, I go to London this week to see Liv and Laura and some of my other besties which I’m SO excited for, and am meeting someone extra spesh while I’m there. Sit tight!!
If you’re in NZ (or ur an NZ resident living elsewhere) it’s time to vote!!!

First of all, if you’re in NZ (or ur a NZ resident living elsewhere) it’s time to vote!!!
Just thought this would be a good reminder to everyone that you need to VOTE!! Vote because your boss does, your landlord does, and your Dad does!!!
And, if you’re like me and are voting from overseas, it’s super easy!!!!
A note on Israel and Palestine
You have DEFINITELY seen what’s happening all over social media (or, if you’re good, you’ve read about it in the news) and I am simply here to tell you that I am NOT the person to be explaining such an intense and complex situation (and neither is your fave celeb/ influencer probably.) I suggest you go to the BBC!
An earthquake in Afghanistan
At least 2000 people are feared dead after a 6.3-magnitude quake hit villages in Herat Province on Saturday, and with communications down and roads blocked, it’s proving very hard for rescue workers to get to remote areas. More on this here!
Some Nobel Prizes have been awarded!
Ok, first a quick explainer of what the Nobel Prizes actually are. There are Six Nobel Prizes awarded every year, and each of them recognizes an individual or organization’s groundbreaking contribution in a specific field. The fields are:
physiology or medicine
physics
chemistry
economic science
literature, and
peace work
The New York Times has given a round-up on who’s won the prizes so far this year (the economic science prize hasn’t been announced yet), and here’s where we’re at:
The award for physiology or medicine was awarded to Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman on Monday, for their discoveries that led to the development of effective vaccines against Covid-19. Read more about them here.
On Tuesday, the award for physics was shared by three scientists — Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne L’Huillier — for their work on electrons. Read more about them here.
The award for chemistry was awarded on Wednesday to Moungi G. Bawendi, Louis E. Brus and Alexei I. Ekimov for the discovery and development of quantum dots, nanoparticles so small that their size determines their properties. Read more about them here.
On Thursday, the award for literature was awarded to the Norwegian author Jon Fosse “for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable.” Read more about him here.
The award for peace work was awarded on Friday to Narges Mohammadi, a jailed Iranian activist, “for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.” Read more about her here.
What do they actually win?
Ok so again, I only just learnt this, but along with receiving a Nobel Prize diploma and a medal, they also get a document “detailing the Nobel Prize amount” which this year is 11 million Swedish krona (or about $989,000USD.)
