WORDLE SAVED A WOMAN'S LIFE
Mōrena lil shits!!
Yesterday I spent the day in Cambridge with Squish where we recorded a new episode of The Shit Show for you! It was hot and I’m tired, but always a pleasure to see the bro. Also, remember when I told you about my friend Rebecca? Well, Monique sent in her own “Rebecca” story:
“Hey Luce,
just wanted to tell a similar story. When I was a kid and my father had his first mobile phone, I used to record my singing too. When there was music playing on the radio, I sang along and listened to the recordings after. Eventually, I forgot about all these recordings and a few years later, when my father searched for something on his old mobile phone, he found them (and there were a LOT).
When he asked me about them, and told my family, I lied and told them these were from strangers singing on the radio and that I only recorded this to show them how bad other people could sing :´). They obviously didn't believe me and it was mortifying.
But you are not alone in this, thank you for keeping me up to date.”
It feels good to be truly understood in a way that only fellow Rebecca’s could understand.

Marry Me?
The other night Liv and I went to a cheeky advanced screening of ‘Marry Me,’ that new romcom with JLo and Owen Wilson and… if I had my smart Culture Vulture hat on, I would say it’s nothing we haven’t seen before, it’s extremely predictable and idk… technically not good??? BUT if I’m being honest, as normal newsletter Luce, I can’t lie to you - I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and I was hooked the whole time (Liv even looked over at one point and I was straight vibing to one of the songs.) So it wasn’t technically good, but damn it was an enjoyable experience (hmmmm, so then does that make it a good movie actually? I guess it depends on what you’re watching for...) I also realllly struggle to hold my attention on movies/anything for long, so the fact that I could really easily sit through it is also a win (lol, bare minimum!) Damn, you can tell why my job isn’t to be a film critic eh??
Anyway, it got me thinking (and I actually leaned over and said this to Liv during the movie, because I am that annoying person who can’t hold in her thoughts, as you know) about what the last truly original and beautiful romcom/ light romance movie was? In the era of Notting Hill and Bridget Jones and Love Actually, romcoms RULED! And I respected the shit out of them! Now we have 'The Kissing Booth' and 'The Christmas Prince' and ‘He’s All That…” I would argue that the last beautiful romcom was 'La La Land' (which could just be my memory failing me and maybe some good ones have come out since), but would love to know if you have any others! I also did not realise I had such strong thoughts about this!!

That awful Religious Discrimination Bill I wrote about yesterday?
It’s had a busy night. After an all-night sitting, it passed the lower house (the House of Representatives), with Labor pushing for amendments. But now, it’s kinda been shelved. Due to new amendments for LGBTQ+ students that the Coalition doesn’t support, “the spectre of more Liberal senators crossing the floor, and the potential for the upper house to simply run out of time to consider the bill” the government pulled the bill from debate on Thursday, meaning it may not even come to the Senate before the election.
From here, there are several possible outcomes, depending on whether the government does or does not eventually introduce the bill to the Senate - it might not even get there before the election - but I’ll keep you in the loop! For more info on this though, you should take a look at this!

Everything We Thought About Euphoria Was Wrong - Culture Vulture — open.spotify.com
This week we unpack ALL the rumours and criticisms surrounding Season 2 of Euphoria and its creator Sam Levinson. Are we holding Euphoria to an extremely high standard because we were so obsessed with Season 1????? Are there facts to back up the intense TikTok slamming??? Do we wait with bated breath for every new episode anyway???
WORDLE SAVED THIS WOMAN'S LIFE
Just when I thought this game couldn’t get any better (and when I thought I was done writing about it) Worlde strikes again.
So, Denyse Holt, an 80-year-old woman from Chicago is a daily Worlde player, and, like a lot of us, she sends her score to her family each day. On February 5th, however, her family noticed that she hadn’t sent in her score, prompting her daughter to reach out further. When she wasn’t responding to texts either, her daughter alerted police, who went and conducted a well-being check at her home on 6 February.
And lucky they did, because Denyse had been taken hostage in her home by a mentally ill suspect who had entered, threatened her with scissors and forced her - still wearing a nightgown - “to take a warm bath with him before taking two knives from the kitchen, disconnecting phones, and locking her in a cold basement bathroom.”
Luckily Denyse was unharmed, and the police now have the suspect, but damn! Thank god we’re obsessed with sharing our Wordle scores!
‘Bored’ Museum Security Guard Doodled Eyes on $1.3M Painting
The problem is, I feel like this is something me and my intrusive thoughts would do. Let me explain. A Russian security guard has reportedly caused thousands of dollars in damage to a $1.3 million painting by drawing eyes on it during his very first day on the job. He doodled some eyes on to Anna Leporskaya’s Three Figures, a soviet-era painting that was on loan from the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
Here’s what the curator of the collection reckons:
“His motives are still unknown but the administration believes it was some kind of a lapse in sanity,”
The 60-year-old vandal has since vanished, but I'm sure if investigators just doodled some eyes on, they could find him.
Do you keep your eggs in the fridge?
The amount of random shit I learn through these polls is honestly AMAZING. Yesterday I asked you all whether you keep your eggs in the fridge or not, because growing up I never have. Well DAMN did I get a lot of impassioned responses, especially from Americans. I’ve now learnt that in the US (and Aussie, Scandinavia and Japan) eggs are always kept chilled, because they wash their eggs and apparently… we don’t.
After a few unfortunate events (and a fear of salmonella), the U.S. Department of Agriculture decided that eggs needed to be washed, and with the help of fancy machines, required all egg producers to do it.
Here’s how it works (via NPR): “Soon after eggs pop out of the chicken, American producers put them straight to a machine that shampoos them with soap and hot water. The steamy shower leaves the shells squeaky clean. But it also compromises them, by washing away a barely visible sheen that naturally envelops each egg.”
“The coating is like a little safety vest for the egg, keeping water and oxygen in and bad bacteria out. Washing can damage that layer and "increase the chances for bacterial invasion. So we spray eggs with oil to prevent bacteria from getting in, and refrigerate them to keep microorganisms at bay.”
While I was deep in this thought eggsperiment, I also wondered: why are some eggs brown and some white? TURNS OUT IT’S REALLY BASIC AND IT’S BASED ON THE BREED/COLOUR OF THE CHOOK!
From egg.ca (great website):
“The eggshell colour depends on the breed of the hen. Generally speaking, white shell eggs come from hens with white feathers, while brown shell eggs are produced by hens with brown feathers.”
Oh yeah and the poll results!
79% of you do keep your eggs in the fridge
21% of us don't!
