Love this! I’m from Motueka (Nelson) and my brother is living in Blenheim and it’s so crazy to think you have come from such a small area!! This speech honestly sounds like it’s out of a movie in the coolest way possible and it’s really comforting to know (as a GAP year student who doesn’t know what to do with life) that it doesn’t all have to be planned out perfectly. Another thing i really admire is that you could unite your year group so well, last year my year 13 group was small but we never did anything superbly rogue or unifying. Anyway thank you for sharing 🫶
this was gorgeous to read. I struggle with appreciating my hometown because it was so toxic for me, from the people to the schools. I went all the way through uni in my hometown, born and raised there. Many traumatic things happened there, it wasn’t until after uni until i found a way out. while i still don’t have a post grad job i’m sure it just doesn’t exist yet, and that’s the convo i have had with everyone in my friends
So wholesome! I would have loved to have heard this speech when I was in high school! It would have helped so much with my anxiety about choosing what to do after leaving school 🥹

Luce thank you for writing this. it's so relatable. I applied to be a prefect in school but was rejected. I was a goody goody all of my secondary years and this was my first rejection. It still niggles me to this day almost 10 years on. Probs because it was that first rejection from something i thought was the end of the world when i didn't get it, but hearing your words of its overrated and didn't actually provide you with any perks feels like closure. Also if i had a head boy/girl like you in my final year of school wow it would have been such a better place with less stress and more fun. I feel people including myself take suitations to be too fixed these days but they are temporary as you said. We can get stuck at school, uni, work or even leaving our hometowns but we need to try. If we don't like it just go back nothing is permanent. If we all lived a bit more temporary connections, communities and lives could be improved. Thanks for sharing 💚
