america i am literally so fucking sorry
what else could I possibly add to the US election discourse?
Luce note: While the major news outlets haven’t technically called the winner of the US election yet, Donald Trump is projected to have won three out of seven crucial swing states, putting him on the cusp of taking back the White House.
As per the BBC: “Technically, this isn't over. But let's be straight: this is all over bar the shouting. Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States.”
America I am literally so fucking sorry
Jesus fucking christ I feel sick. I’ve spent the entire day trying to focus on the conference I’m at (it’s also an INSANE thing to be attending a media conference on the day of the US election with some of the literal smartest people in the world) and doing a shit job of paying attention to the beautiful speakers because I’ve been glued to my phone.
Feels like a ridiculous thing for a small town kiwi to be doing - live tweeting/ posting/ commenting on the US election - but it’s the job I’ve somehow wound up with, and saying the quiet part out loud is why you come to me, so I’m happy (actually, is happy the right word? idk) to oblige:
This newsy is not going to be a breakdown of what went wrong today, or an analysis of how the voting panned out - it’s actually more of an apology, I think.
I’m sorry to anyone who now lives in a country where a convicted felon was voted into the top job.
I’m sorry to anyone who now lives in a country where needing an abortion could cost them their livelihoods (or literal lives.)
I’m sorry to anyone who lives in a country where young men don’t seem to have any proper role models to look to on the left and are instead left with the likes of Joe Rogan and Elon Musk to teach them what masculinity looks like.
I’m sorry to anyone who now lives in a country which is run by a man who openly hates women, literally assaults them, and thinks they deserve to be punished for terminating a pregnancy.
I’m sorry to anyone who worked tirelessly to campaign against Trump, using the same playbook that has failed the Democratic Party in the past, yet still continued to operate with hope.
I will leave you with the words of the renowned Gen Z philosopher Gracie Abrams:
Always here if you need me,

Today we weep, tomorrow we organize. Mutual aid, community movements, and ensuring liberation for all, not just some. But today is to rage and scream and cry, and feel the crushing weight of what has just happened. Sending love to all, this affects us all— whether you think so or not.
i am not even american but i feel so affected by that, so i can even imagnine what (smart) americans must feel. They just condemn, not only their country, but also palestinians, ukrainians, women's rights, and soo more and i just can't understand how people can be that dumb, like how can you vote for Trump after everything he did and everything he said. I don't even understand how he was allowed to compete as president. All of this make me sick and i'm so sorry for american and especially women, black people and lgbt people.
sorry if there's gramatical or orthographic error, english is not my first langage and i'm in a bit of a rush.
