Hi my babies!!!! Hope you all had a lovely weekend!! I went to Taupō with some of my besties and you may know this about me - but I am SUCH a lake girl, that it was so gorge to be submerged in that fresh water.

A Woolly Mammoth Mouse?
Ok so let’s be clear: extinction is still forever, but scientists at Colossal Biosciences are doing what may be the next best thing: “genetically engineering living animals with qualities to resemble extinct species like the woolly mammoth.”
Colossal has “simultaneously edited seven genes in mice embryos” to create these mice with long, thick, woolly hair, which they’ve nicknamed the “Colossal woolly mouse.”

“They picked the two traits because these mutations are likely related to cold tolerance — a quality that woolly mammoths must have had to survive on the prehistoric Arctic steppe.
Colossal said it focused on mice first to confirm if the process works before potentially moving on to edit the embryos of Asian elephants, the closest living relatives to woolly mammoths.”
The Aftermath of Cyclone Alfred
I’m not going to lie - I thought the cyclone that hit Australia last week was called Cyclone Arthur, so this headline originally read ‘The Arthturmath of Cyclone Arthur’ and I was really proud of it, which is why I’m choosing to still tell you about it even though I have since realised it was Cyclone Alfred.
Anyway, enough about my puns, because hundreds of thousands of people remain without power in Australia after Alfred made landfall on the east coast of Australia.

Canada has a new PM
See ya Justin, hello… Mark? Yup, Canada has a new Prime Minister: Mark Carney, “the former central banker who oversaw the response to financial crises in North America and the UK.” Sounds like a fun dude.
Some things to know about Carney:
He holds degrees from Harvard and Oxford universities and spent over a decade at the investment firm Goldman Sachs.
He has never run for political office before, and he spent much of the Liberal leadership campaign introducing himself to Canadians.
but he did previously serve as an economic adviser to Trudeau
Upon departure, Trudeau said some pretty harrowing shit
Like:
“This is a nation-defining moment. Democracy is not a given. Freedom is not a given. Even Canada is not a given,” he told supporters.
And Carney said:
“America is not Canada. And Canada never, ever, will be part of America in any way, shape or form,” Carney told supporters.

For more context (necessary) this was Trudeau speaking at the National Forum on Combatting anti-Semitism, and he preceded this statement by saying:
“The term Zionist increasingly being tossed around as a pejorative, in spite of the fact that it simply means believing in the right of Jewish people, like all people, to determine their own future, is not normal.”
