Guyssssssss remember a few months ago when I posted about the Barbie flip top phone???? Well, after months of battles with customs, and a lot of gumption from my bestie Sacha (and her UK-based brother) LOOK WHAT ARRIVED!!
It’s a ‘dumb phone’ meaning it can literally take pics, you can play ‘malibu snake’ and it can send texts/ make calls, but that’s about it. I really want to somehow incorporate it into my life or do something silly with it, so any ideas, please comment!!!
On a whole other note I’m speaking at the senior prizegiving at my old high school tonight (where I was the head student, no biggie) and weirdly I’m a lil bit nervous about it??? Something about being in a room with a bunch of young women who are no doubt smarter than me in a lot of ways. Hope I can leave them with something cute!!!!

Coming to you from the waning patch of sun on my kitchen floor, mourning the weekend where my best friend here moved away. We've been laughing ever since at how having each other on 'Find My' is a cute way to keep in touch without having to send each other messages and add to the constant WhatsApp overwhelm. In my attempt to become more mysterious and less reliable to get a hold of, I feel like it's actually quite a cute solushe??
Anyway - to a more pressing topic:
On (still) being underestimated
I've written this before (and actually, Luce and I write A LOT about it in OUR BOOK!), but it's something that keeps cropping up in my working life and something that feels like it's really resonated with audiences when we've done live events lately.
I've felt it as a woman, as someone who looks way younger than I am (not a flex), comes from a tiny corner of the world no one really cares about (except for its association with Lorde and rings), not having a famous It Girl personal internet presence, or maybe just because I'm a chilled out kiwi chick not emanating aggressive girl boss energy? Who's to say, but I'd be really interested to know the ways in which it manifests for you, too..?
It's buzzy, though, isn't it? That it's 2024, we have the internet at our disposal to open our minds about how to treat each other and level our expectations of one another and yet, here we are, still asking the women in the room to run for coffee or explain things to them. Whenever it happens though, it can be turned into a powerful feeling, that you exist in two ways:
1) what they see and underestimate about you and
2) what you're truly capable of.
People tend to underestimate you until someone else doesn't. More often than we give credit for, that ‘someone else’ has to be ourselves, which is annoying and time-consuming and demands these bold leaps of faith and self-belief. That's where the life's work is, and it's a very reassuring thing that Anyone Great I've ever met still wrestles with this. It makes me think about the moment I started sharing my writing online because someone I admired, who was Doing Far More Successfully Than Me at the time said, 'If you don't - no one else will - so why not start with her?'. Words to live by.
I like the idea of going about my life with people thinking I'm this small, insignificant thing. And most of the time I am. But in some shimmery moments, we can surprise everyone. And that's the best revenge.

Ok I usually do EVERYTHING IN MY POWER to avoid the New York Post (soz Hamilton), but they posted an 'exclusive’ story this morning about Diddy’s ‘requirements’ for the girls at his ‘freak offs’ and yep, they’re as bad as you may have imagined. Here are some of the alleged requirements (according to an event organiser):
Weight Limit of 140 Pounds: Each female guest was expected to weigh no more than 140 pounds, with a scale reportedly kept nearby for any necessary weigh-ins. While the weight requirement was typically firm, the organizer noted there was some discretion for taller women whose height might naturally increase their weight.
Young and Attractive Appearance: Guests needed to meet high beauty standards, described by the organizer as “young and hot.” The preference for youthful looks meant an emphasis on smooth skin, a fresh appearance, and features often associated with stereotypical attractiveness.
No Visible Flab or Cellulite: Physical fitness was reportedly non-negotiable, with guests expected to have toned bodies without any visible signs of cellulite or flab. This requirement reflects a stringent standard of leanness and visible muscle tone.
Minimal Piercings and Tattoos: Visible body modifications were reportedly discouraged, meaning that women with prominent piercings or tattoos were not ideal guests. A more natural or traditionally “clean-cut” look was preferred, emphasizing less visible adornment.
No Short Hair: Long hair was reportedly a specific requirement, with women who had short hairstyles being less desirable. The preference for longer hair aligns with traditional beauty standards, which often regard longer hair as more conventionally feminine.
