This dystopian ass story feels like a very expensive fever dream. In case you missed it (I’m sure you didn’t) Katy Perry just became the latest celeb to launch herself into suborbital space.
She, along with Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez, Gayle King (veteran TV journalist, Aisha Bowe (a former NASA rocket scientist and aerospace engineer), Amanda Nguyen (civil rights activist, Nobel Peace Prize nominee), and Kerianne (film producer) dubbed themself the ‘Taking Up Space’ crew and I guess thought that going into space for 11 minutes was some huge moment for feminism?
Why did they go?
First, let me tell you what they didn’t go to do. It wasn’t for research. It wasn’t to promote climate awareness (which, if you’re burning that much rocket fuel, you kinda have to at least pretend). It was - for Katy at least - “a personal journey to feel small again.”
This whole thing feels like the final frontier of celebrity detachment. Like, we’re living through multiple overlapping crises on Earth and you’re… releasing your new album tracklist in orbit?
The carbon footprint? Sky-high. The symbolism? Even worse: when the rich start literally leaving the planet, it’s not giving “inspiration” - it’s giving escape hatch.
Anyway, my personal fave moment was when Jeff Bezos fell over on his way to greet them after they’d landed:
Hungary quit the ICC (yep, it’s because of Netanyahu)
This happened in early April but I didn’t cover it so here it is now!
Here’s the short version: Hungary has left the International Criminal Court (ICC) because they didn’t want to risk having to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Why would they need to arrest him?
Because the ICC has a warrant out for Netanyahu’s arrest over alleged war crimes in Gaza. And since Hungary is technically supposed to follow ICC rules, things got awkward fast when he came for a visit.
Rather than deal with it, Hungary just noped out of the whole system.
This matters because the ICC is one of the only places that tries to hold powerful people accountable for things like war crimes. It doesn’t always work - but when countries pull out, it weakens that whole idea even more.
Some people say Hungary left to protect its own power and avoid legal drama. Others say it’s a worrying sign of more countries turning their backs on global justice.
Either way, it’s not just about one visit or one leader. It’s about whether the world still has systems that hold anyone truly accountable. And whether powerful people keep finding ways to slip through the cracks.

The director of Home Alone 2 wants to digitally evict Donald Trump
In a recent interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Home Alone director Chris Columbus said he wishes he could remove Donald Trump’s seven-second cameo from the 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
“It’s become this curse. It’s become an albatross for me. I just wish it was gone,” Columbus said, clearly over the fact that this tiny moment from a 30-year-old movie is now one of the most talked about things he’s ever made.
“I can’t cut it,” Columbus added on a sarcastic note. “If I cut it, I’ll probably be sent out of the country. I’ll be considered sort of not fit to live in the United States, so I’ll have to go back to Italy or something.”
Luce note: Trump owned the Plaza Hotel at the time, and Columbus says he only let them film there if he got a cameo.

Remember when Katy Perry dropped "I Kissed a Girl" and then never did anything interesting, progressive, or charitable ever again???
Must go to Tane Mahuta and it's 100% worth it to make the 15 minute walk to Te Matua Ngahere (second largest Kauri tree and so beautiful). Hundertwasser museum (and the toilets further up), Mt Manaia walk, Treaty Grounds (obv), Eutopia Cafe (very fun), Matapouri, Mimiwhangata, Kai Iwi Lakes (super nice!), Spirits Bay, Opononi, Ahipara, Kairara Rock, Nga Wha Springs, Pompellier mission and printery, The Stone Store (very cool area), Rotopokaka Lake (coca cola lake), Sand dunes before Cape Reinga (worth the stop and the walk along the stream to 90mile beach) ahhh an overload. I swear it just gets better and better as you go up.
