Proposing a third option for the poll because I answered “pay your own way” but in practice this often means that instead of a gift, they have chosen time spent together and so I’ll pay, but you’re not getting anything else (in a nice way haha). Also, I don’t pay for alcohol I didn’t consume. AND it’s not weird to say I can’t afford that set menu so I’d love to join you but no thank you.
Ah I am always thinking about this! I stumbled into a high paid job and my friends earn less. I try to pay for food and drinks when I see them. But other times when it’s chill, I suggest a park hang.
