I'm scared of Nikocado Avocado

‘Two steps ahead, I’m always, too steps ahead’ says Nikocado Avocado (whose real name is Nicholas Perry) in an unnerving and frankly kinda disturbing video.

He’s saying this because the well-known mukbang YouTuber (famous for consuming huuuuuge amounts of food on camera) just told the world that he had undergone a secret weight loss journey while uploading pre-recorded videos to conceal his progress. He’d been doing this for two years.

In an email to NBC News, Perry explained, "For the past two years, I’ve been posting pre-recorded videos on YouTube and TikTok, edited to appear recent, while focusing on my health privately. I also shaved my head to avoid recognition in public. Several fellow YouTubers helped maintain the secrecy."

The video, which begins with Perry wearing a panda mask, describes the transformation as the "greatest social experiment" of his life - but what does he really get out of this? Like, yes, you’ve pranked us or duped us or proved whatever you needed to prove, but this is also just… incredibly strange behaviour.

I love this concept, I love Will Ferrel, and I love seeing a comedian actually being a decent fucking human to a trans person (as opposed to what we’ve seen from a lot of other ‘comedians.’)

This trailer will make you cry. You should watch it.

So many of us have grown up having everything available and accessible to us all the time - which is AMAZING for so many reasons, but there is a cost to free things - even if you can’t see it.

In a world that feels more mystifying by the day, where journalists are constantly being laid off, and misinformation spreads faster than a leaked Harry Styles song, finding media that you trust, understand and actually want to read is so important.
