Angels!!! How are you!!?? I’m excellent because Lorde released her new album (and I got sent a signed Vinyl, including the now infamous Lordussy pic) and my fave songs rn are “GRWM,” ‘Clearblue’ and ‘If She Could See Me Now.’ Shout out to Favourite Daughter for being a banger too, tho.
Speaking of Lorde - did you see that I got to ask her some questions for Vogue????????? They gathered together some of her ‘friends, heroes, and influences’ and got us to ask some questions, and the company I’m alongside is fucking insane…
Hungary showed us that you can’t ban love!!!
Over the weekend, Budapest was filled with rainbow flags, homemade signs, and about 200,000 people who decided the government’s attempt to ban Pride wasn’t gonna fly.
What???
So Hungary’s rightwing leader, Viktor Orbán, and his Fidesz party fast-tracked laws banning any event seen to “promote” homosexuality to minors (classic authoritarian scapegoating). In response? The people showed up in record-breaking numbers.
This year marked 30 years of Budapest Pride, but instead of a joyful milestone, the government tried to stamp it out completely. Police banned the march. Orbán threatened “legal consequences.” His justice minister said even encouraging people to go could mean prison time.
But Budapest’s progressive mayor, Gergely Karácsony, wasn’t having it. He flipped the event into a “municipal gathering,” bypassing the official ban and telling everyone to come “calmly and boldly” to stand up for freedom, dignity, and equal rights.
And the photos are incred:
Trump wants to end birthright citizenship
Ok, so birthright citizenship is the thing that makes anyone born in the US a citizen, even if their parents aren’t citizens or are living there illegally. It’s been around since the 14th Amendment was added after the Civil War - basically to make sure Black people, including former slaves, had full citizenship rights.
So, why are we talking about this?
Because Trump’s at it again. Earlier this year, he signed an executive order trying to deny citizenship to babies born in the US to people living there illegally or temporarily. He reckons birthright citizenship is a “magnet” for illegal immigration.
Did it work?
Not yet. Multiple federal judges called his order “blatantly unconstitutional” and blocked it from taking effect. For over 100 years, the Supreme Court has been super clear that being born on US soil = citizenship, regardless of your parents’ status.
But last week the Supreme Court got involved…
Yep, and their ruling is a bit of a legal curveball. They didn’t actually say whether Trump’s order is constitutional or not. What they did say is that individual judges shouldn’t be able to issue nationwide injunctions - aka stop federal policies across the whole country - which has been one of the main ways Trump’s order got blocked.
What happens now?
It’s messy. The case goes back to lower courts, where the order stays blocked for at least 30 days. Advocates can still challenge Trump’s policy, but getting nationwide relief just got harder. There’s chatter about class-action lawsuits that could still block it everywhere, but that’s a complicated process.

Nice breakdown of the birthright citizenship stuff! Honestly more understandable than a lot of lawyers could do, and I say that as a lawyer :)
Thanks for the birthright citizenship breakdown, very digestible. Stay safe everyone in the US. You can do this.
