HAPPY NEW YEAR MY ANGELS! I’ve missed you so much 🥺 How have you been??? It’s been so fucking cute to see how many of you have been reading Make It Make Sense over the break - please send me all the pics!!!!!!
Most of my break was filled with my friends coming home from overseas (Liv from the UK and Rubes from Sydney!!!!) so lots and lots of gorge girl time!!! There was also lots of beach, lots of lake, and very little internet. Which is probably why I’m feeling so GOOD RIGHT NOW.
Here are some of my summer highlights:
Now, a gift from me xxx
I know the new year brings two things for a lot of people: resolutions, and budgeting. So I’m here to help.
If your New Year’s resolution was to stay more involved in the news OR to support more of the media you love, but you’re on a budget (I get it, SAME), I”m gonna run a 50% off sale for the week!!!!
Newsy subscriptions are how I keep the number of advertising I do on SYSCA as low as possible, and are also how I get paid!! It’s my dream to be able to support more up-and-coming writers when I can afford to as well, so I promise your money is going towards a hopefully bright future!!!
No presh, but if you can swing it, here’s 50% off my babies xxx

Yikes. My friend text me yesterday with this brief summary of what the world has been up to while I’ve been off the planet, and it’s… not looking great:
But as you know, I endeavour to bring you the news without bringing you the blues, so how about for today we ease into the year with some slightly nicer stuff (like my word for 2025!) before going a bit deeper on all of this tomorrow?
I’m doing this for you, but babies, I’m also doing this for me.
BUT! Before I write about it properly tomorrow, I wanted to drop these resources for those affected by the LA fires that I shamelessly (but with a heart full of gratitude) grabbed from
’s excellent newsy so that you and I didn’t feel so helpless (espesh if you’re all the way over in NZ like me):My 2025 Word of The Year: Exploration
If last year was for healing and publishing a book and exorcising all the icky stuff that was inside of me, I’ve decided that this year is for refilling myself with new things. I’m at this point - which I’m super proud to be at - where I really fucking love who I am, and I think when you’re feeling like that, you’re in a prime position to try out some new stuff, hence why I’m in my exploration era.
What does this mean exactly? Good question. I guess I’ll figure it out while I’m doing the exploring. Maybe I’ll join a band or start doing yoga? Maybe I’ll realise I actually like roasted parsnip or find a new favourite cocktail? Maybe I’ll date some women? Maybe I’ll try some new drugs? Maybe I’ll take it super literally and explore the new city I live in. Who knows?
This time last year I was uncharacteristically scared of new things. I was a bit scared of everything actually. But I’m not anymore, which feels nice! I’ll let you know how this exploration goes. Feel free to join me xxxx
Lol sorry how much did that feel like a literal diary entry????? Love u guys for making this such a safe space for me. xxx

Loved reading this - I think my theme/word for 2025 is End-of-the-world Confidence, aka just putting myself out there and not hiding under self doubt because who knows when the end of the world will come!!!!
Ps. Sent you a substack dm!!
Welcome back! I've been missing the newsy but so glad you had such a nice break. I don't know if I have a word for this year, but I am trying to get myself out of bad habits and make some small changes so I'm happier and healthier overall!
