October 7th, one year on
+ Kamala Harris went on 'Call Her Daddy' and we're getting a live action Rugrats?
Hello darlings!!! Hugeeee weekend for people turning 27 (me) and for people who get hangxiety (also me.) I spent my birthday at a cheese festival here in Blenheim with my family, and my little brother Ben even surprised me by coming home for it!! I felt very loved and spoilt and full of cheese.
I also want to give a shoutout to one of my besties/ flatmate Lucy, who made me THIS:

It’s been one year since October 7th
Can you believe it? It’s been a year of witnessing the very worst of humanity - and being lucky if all we had to do was witness it from our screens. Since October 7th 2023 nearly 42,000 people (mostly civilians) have been killed, Gaza is in ruins, and young journalists have stepped up and risked their lives to show it to us, front and centre.
Honestly, I don’t really know what to add to this conversation that won’t be said better than by those living through it themselves, so here are some things for you to spend some time with:
Poetry:
‘Under The Rubble,’ a poem by Mosab Abu Toha
An excerpt:
He left the house to buy some bread for his kids.
News of his death made it home,
but not the bread.
No bread.
Death sits to eat whoever remains of the kids.
No need for a table, no need for bread.
Fiction
A Curated List of 20 Palestinian Short Stories, in Translation, Online
The Palestinian section of ‘Words Without Borders’ (and then everything else tbh)
Painting
Malak Mattar is a young \ Palestinian artist who’s been illustrating the realities of Palestinians. Look at her beautiful work:

So many of us have grown up having everything available and accessible to us all the time - which is AMAZING for so many reasons, but there is a cost to free things - even if you can’t see it.
In a world that feels more mystifying by the day, where journalists are constantly being laid off, and misinformation spreads faster than a leaked Harry Styles song, finding media that you trust, understand and actually want to read is so important.
I know you value what I do - so many of you email me saying how much you love the newsletter, thanking me for explaining topics you might not have heard of, and telling me how much it means to you that you’ve got a friend on the other side of this thing (🥺🥺🥺) If you believe in paying for the media (or the person???) you love, then please consider becoming a supporter.

Kamala Harris went on Call Her Daddy
I never thought I’d see it. I will note that Alex Cooper, in her caveat that she obviously felt she had to make at the beginning of this episode, also said she had reached out to Donald Trump to come on for a conversation, which I would actually fucking love to hear. I’m not gonna lie - I didn’t think the episode was very groundbreaking at all, but I do think her publicity team is kinda slaying with the media opps.
A live-action ‘Rugrats’ movie is being made
For some reason this feels very important to me, except upon reading a little more into it, I fear it may creep me out:
“Now, it has been confirmed according to Deadline, that Paramount is developing a movie which will see the film set in the real world while the characters Tommy Pickles and his pals Chuckie Finster and Phil and Lil DeVille will be animated.”
