i feel like if a bot was going to make lonely men feel connected and kill less, then i am all for it! we all know the rejection and lonely stories they give, so this might honestly be a good thing for some. but in saying that, it could absolutely go the other way as well, giving real world black mirror hell.
Hi, id like to weigh in on the bot relationship. Im all for doing “whatever” you need to satisfy your needs. I can absolutely see how that could be fulfilling and healthy. The only thing major con i see, is the danger of falling out of touch with the people in our lives.
=> i support it as an extension of our support system/social needs, but not the replacement
The AI chatbot story made me think of this movie I’m Your Man (Ich Bin Dein Mensch) where Dan Stevens (from Downton Abbey lol) plays an AI programmed to be someone’s ‘perfect’ romantic partner based on their preferences etc. It was really buzzy and a really interesting exploration of the ethics and human emotions involved in this kinda thing!! Highly recommend
I wonder how many people using Replika took the time to read their privacy policy 😭 I haven’t read it either, but I can only imagine what they’re doing with all those interactions and even if they’re not doing anything with it what OpenAI is doing with it if it’s backed by GPT. People are probably sharing so much stuff with it because it’s not a real person and forgetting about the fact that there are software engineers and data scientists on the other end. This morning on my way to uni I was listening to the latest episode of Culture Vulture and I literally started crying because of Liv's departure.
I am so excited for her but the whole thing for me felt so bitter (no sweet). Culture Vulture was and is one of my favourite things in a week, like I'm always waiting for the episode to come out and then eagerly listen to it with sometimes strangers looking at me like I'm a freak when I laugh at some of your stories (especially love the ones with car issues). And for the last year I've been your faithful fan and I just love you all so much. It was like you were there for through the shit that was 2022 and I am so grateful for this. I have many fond memories of me listening this podcast and I just wish you all the best, especially Liv! Go have the the best time ever, girl ❤️ I am gonna miss you so much and I kinda wish you had an ig account or started your newsletter because I would love to hear about what you're up to. Anyways, wish you all the best, am sending you my love and hope you have a great time. Your voice brings me warmth and I hope all the messages that would be surely sent to you will do the same
