I'm less bothered by the fact that they lied (of course they did) and more by the amount of waste going on just in the examples in this post. Buying $7 lattes you don't even like? Drenching your face in foundation just to wipe it off? Chopping up designer clothes for some shitty legwarmers?? What a sickening display of privilege for a few likes.
My main thought is just that this is so dumb. Why would you waste so much of your life pretending to be into something you’re not into? Why dedicate your life to making fancy ice if you don’t even like fancy ice? It’s just so stupid.
She didn't use the sound for this one but I also loved how Charli said "it was never an anxiety pen, I don't know where that came from" lmao. I honestly love her she grew up cool
People lie to make money. Shocker!! If you can lie to become president twice... then it's hardly a surprise when an entire generation thinks lying to make money and get "famous" is okay... The worst part is the huge number of people who felt it was important to believe these people in the first place. That's a mental health tragedy right there.
I feel like people actually like being lied to. As long as somebody can play a part convincingly, people don’t care anymore if it’s true or not. In the past, I think something like this would cause an uproar. It’s disturbing to live in a post-truth world. As long as something IS entertaining and enrapturing facts don’t matter anymore (insert current politics in the US 🥴.)
Did anyone else think that most of these influencers were jumping on the trend as a joke? Like calling out their most famous “reason for being famous” and playing into the hype? I didn’t really take any of the confessions as being actual confessions. Charli’s was my favorite though!
I never really "got" Tik Tok. I'm in the UK so the ban doesn't affect us, but as I don't really use it, it wouldn't worry me anyway.
Regarding influences, there will always be some who tell the truth and actually use the things they promote. But others are clearly blagging it and always have been. No different to door to door salesmen of old, just done over the internet with a bit of music in the background.
It’s one of many reasons I don’t want them here. They’re no better than the toilet paper companies calling something a mega roll even when it’s an 1/2” smaller than a roll used to be. It’s all smoke and mirrors.

Bring back media literacy lmaooo
I've said it before: stop calling them influencers, they're advertisers. They're not "brands," they're sales reps.

And now comes the desperate backpedal now the ban is lifted 😂

So, influencers go in that folder “people you've never heard of”
I have never trusted influencers. I get the yuk when I see one.

Can someone explain the Charli one to me? I don't understand it

I have this new Hoover here...it really sucks...can I come in and demonstrate? I'll just throw some dirt on the carpet and show you how it goes...🤠
Well, duh. I never downloaded the app anyway.
Don't know if im surprised, just gonna be cooking pork chops though, in memory of this good news.
Nice. I had pork chops last night! They were good. The boneless kind, although I do enjoy the bone in as well.
Truth prevails
