How was your weekend? Were you lonely? Fulfilled? Rested? I was all three this weekend!!! Spent about four hours scheming with Bel in a local cafe, cooked my fave brekky for Flo and I (recipe below) played a LOT of Taylor Swift/ Noah Kahan on my guitar, tried to read my book, avoided washing my sheets (I know - must do that this week!!) 🍳Shit You Should Cook About (Luce edish): Chill Girl Çılbır Eggs🍳
Close friends saw it first (and asked me to post the recipe in the newsy)!! Laura has brought me into a new era - my cooking era (idk if we can call it that yet actually) but yesterday I cooked mine and Flo’s fave brekky ever, Çılbır Eggs (pronounced chil-bir FYI.) These Turkish eggs are fucking incredible, and have been our FAVE brunch for the longest time (the best ones ever are from Honey Bones up here in Tāmaki Makaurau) so we tried to recreate them - and succeeded!
Chill Girl Çılbır Eggs
This recipe is from The Spruce Eats, but I’ll lay it out for you below for your ease!!
Ingredients
For the Yogurt Spread:
1 cup plain greek yogurt, room temperature
1 clove garlic
1 teaspoon lemon zest
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh dill
1/4 teaspoon fine salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
For the Spiced Butter Sauce:
4 ounces (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 tablespoon ground Aleppo chili pepper (chili flakes are fine)
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
For the Poached Eggs:
1 tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice
4 large eggs
Fresh herbs, such as dill, mint, or parsley, for serving
Flaky sea salt, for serving
Turkish bagels or bread (I used sourdough)
Method
It’s super easy! First you mix up the alllll the ingredients for the yoghurt base into a bowl (a flat bowl is best.)
Then you melt your butter in a pot til it goes brown, and then mix in the chili flakes and cumin. Pour that over the yoghurt base ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ
Now poach your eggs and toast your toast!
Pop the eggs on your yoghurt/ chilli butter goodness, garnish however the hell you want, and eat it with your toast. YUM! ◡̈

So Ratty Healy is real?
Babe, wake up, new 1975 inside joke just dropped!!! I feel like you’re gonna get quite a lot of The 1975 content this week based on the fact that I’m GOING TO TWO OF THEIR SHOWS - AHHH! But I had to talk about this.
So, in The 1975 there are a lot of jokes that roast frontman Matty Healy. One of the most common ones is simply to call him ‘Ratty Healy,’ which is also funny when you consider how much he looks like the rat from Flushed Away:
We all thought that the fact that he looked like this rat was a funny little coincidence / joke and nothing more, until The 1975’s show in Brizzy. Along with a bunch of chaotic and iconic moments, Matty took a second to drop the bomb that the rat from Flushed Away is based on him. Now, for the record, while what our fave nep baby says DOES LOW KEY LINE UP, I also can’t tell if he’s joking or not. Here’s what he says:
“as you know my parents are actors, my mum is an actress… her godfather is a producer, he produces movies, and I wasn’t actually close to him until I was about 14… but anyway, he was looking for inspiration for a movie he was producing called Flushed Away, so um, it is genuinely based on me.
And I know that seems ridiculous but if you do enough internet research you’ll be able to find out it’s true… So maybe I am officially a fucking rat man.”

The internet did do some research and some people say it checks out because his mum’s godfather DID write Flushed Away:
While the realists among us (like this reddit user) think it doesn’t quite because Matty would have been 17 and not 14…
“I cannot stop laughing 😂 Flushed away came out in 2006 so it would be based on a 17 year old Matty (pre-suit era), so doubtful, BUT I can imagine him making up this whole story ahead of time and cackling thinking that he’s going to send us out to research it. The rat strikes again 😂🐀👑
Oh and Wikipedia says the character is based on the non human character Sam O’Kane, but I can’t find who that is.”
But that also that means Matty could have been the inspo for one of the other rats:
“which rat tho... if it came out in 2006 matty would b 17? so is it ritas emo brother rat or roddy... (yes this is my favourite film and this would mean alot to me)”
It’s like the perfect joke by Matty - it’s self-deprecating and it ALMOST checks out (because he’s a nepo baby.) If anyone has anymore intel I’d love to hear it!

Woah! Montana has become the “first state to approve a bill that would ban TikTok over the possibility that the Chinese government could request Americans' data” from it.
“The bill makes it illegal to download TikTok in the state, with penalties of up to $10,000 a day for any entity, such as Apple and Google's app stores or TikTok itself, that makes the popular video-streaming app available.”
The Montana House Of Reps has sent it on to Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte, who can now sign the measure into law.
If enacted, the ban in the state would not start until January 2024.

Atiq Ahmed: Former Indian politician and brother shot dead live on TV (BBC)
“A former Indian politician convicted of kidnapping has been shot dead live on TV along with his brother.
Atiq Ahmed, who was under police escort, was talking to reporters when a gun was pulled close to his head in Prayagraj, also known as Allahabad.
After the shots were fired on Saturday night, three men who had been posing as journalists quickly surrendered and were taken into custody.
Ahmed's teenage son was shot dead by police days earlier.”

Dozens of climate activists arrested after shovelling coal from train bound for Newcastle (The Guardian)
Police have charged about 50 protesters after they scaled a train and started shovelling coal out of its wagons
About 20 people linked to so-called climate defence group Rising Tide climbed on to the train and used shovels to unload coal from the laden wagons, while another 30-odd provided support inside the rail corridor. A banner hung from the train read: “Survival guide for humanity: no new coal.”

Your weekend sounds lovely Luce! I went to a live D&D show as part of the Melbourne Comedy Festival on Saturday, I went alone and a lovely lady in the line in front of me with her husband and kids asked if I was alone and then offered to let me sit with them so I wasn't by myself. The show was fantastic, and honestly I'm fine being by myself, but that sweet gesture really made my day and reminded me that there are really lovely people out there. Have a great week!!
