not only do I have a minds eye where i can vividly picture anything i want but I also βseeβmusic in it!! I have synesthesia (like Lorde does) and I often see the same colors she does when talking about her music- but I also see shapes and patterns as music plays. can be quite distracting.
Not me laying on the couch trying to see whether I can truly visualise things in my mind or not π Do people who have a mindβs eye literally see an image as if it were a movie?? Everything stays black and I donβt actually visualise anything but I can think of, say the outline of an apple and know what it looks like without seeing it... does that even make sense?!?
Myself and my work colleagues have spoke about how we think extensively and there is someone in the team who doesnβt have an inner monologue OR a mindβs eye!! She said she just βfeelsβ things?! Wild!!
Great read about the minds eye tho!! Iβm apparently that person who has inner monologue (can change voices too) AND minds eye (feels like a projector between my brain, but behind my eyes). Itβs fun n weird. Take care!
I not only have a mindβs eye and inner monologue, but I can read exact words (literally whole sentences/paragraphs) off pages in my head. Makes me a very good memorizer of information. I can also modify images and texts in my head too, rearrange shapes, change colors, think in 3D, etc. There have been times where if I didnβt like a dream I was having I would just rewind it and change the scenario in real time, while sleeping. My dreams are also in full color and the βcharactersβ have complete conversations that make sense for the most part. So wild to me that not everyone experiences this!!
I feel like I can visualize things but I can't actually SEE them? Like it's not like a movie in my head, it's more of a vague image in the back of my mind that i know is there and can sort of see but if i try to concentrate on it it disappears? It sort of comes in flickers and it's easier with my eyes open than closed. But like also, when i remember certain interactions i can kind of see where we were/what the person looked like as an image, but again I don't see very specific details.
Ever since I was a child I always struggled to conjure up an image when someone would say "imagine X with Y" or when a meditation video would tell me to visualize a candle and really focus on it or whatever. Then at some point i just assumed they just expected me to like, have the knowledge it was there and focus on that, which was way easier, but then I learned about aphantasia and well. My initial intuition was right I guess.
Also if someone tells me to imagine an apple, it's like I know what an apple looks like, and that knowledge comes up, and I know I'm imagining a red apple, but im not actually seeing a red apple? Like it feels more like I'm imagining imagining it? Idk it's weird.
Anyways all that to say I'm not really sure about where I stand on the whole mind's eye/no mind's eye thing. Somewhere in between perhaps. Anyone else feel this way?
being the worlds worst artist was what made me realize i didnβt have a minds eye -- i asked my elementary art teacher how she draws so well and she was like βi just copy the image i see in my headβ and 8 yr old meβs mind was BLOWN
I have a mindβs eye and an inner monologue but my partner doesnβt have either! She canβt picture a single thing in her head and completely βblindβ. She canβt remember smells or flavours. Itβs really bizarre but so so interesting!

Love that you can relate anything back to Matty Healy π

Regarding Nostalgiatok, another wonderful account akin to Hannah Montana Out of Context is Twilight Renaissance ~ https://twitter.com/twilightreborn/status/1626639334303535122?s=46&t=YobofxnYfdXaty4zpVDIUg
