Angels! Hi!!!! This past weekend in Aotearoa, we celebrated Matariki - the Māori New Year - which is signified by the Matariki cluster of stars reappearing in our night sky.
We went to a street festival, spent the night in an old barn, ate cake to celebrate my bestie’s birthday, started watching a trashy TV show that we’re addicted to (We Were Liars), and just generally had a really cute weekend.
On Sunday, I went to a really cool make-your-own necklace event run by DIY Daisy, and LOOK AT MY MASTERPIECE! I LOVE HER!!!
The event went for two hours, and while I was there, the US decided to bomb Iran. Here’s how I found out:
So let’s talk about that, shall we?
The US bombed Iran
First of all, if you’re missing context on this sitch, I got you!
Enter: The USA
So, the US just launched a massive bombing campaign on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
What happened?
The US hit three major Iranian nuclear facilities: Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. They used a fleet of stealth bombers and cruise missiles in what they’ve dubbed “Operation Midnight Hammer,” which sounds like an energy drink but is, in fact, an aggressive military strike coordinated with Israel.
Why now?
This all kicked off when Israel launched surprise attacks on Iran two weeks ago, claiming it was stopping Iran’s nuclear program. Iran retaliated with rocket strikes on Israel. The US has since jumped in as Israel’s loudest ally. And here we are watching a military campaign unfolding that Congress didn’t even approve.
What’s the damage?
US officials say the sites are “obliterated” - but Iran claims they moved their materials before the bombs dropped. Satellite images show big craters and debris, but it’s unclear if anything nuclear was actually destroyed.
“The deputy political director of Iran's state broadcaster, Hassan Abedini, said Iran had evacuated these three nuclear sites a "while ago". Appearing on state-run TV, he said Iran "didn't suffer a major blow because the materials had already been taken out". - BBC
What’s next?
Iran’s already hit Tel Aviv and Haifa with missile barrages in response. Their president has promised payback. Experts reckon they’ve got options: retaliate hard now, wait and strike later, or, unlikely but ideal, de-escalate.
Trump promised no more “stupid endless wars,” yet here we are again. World leaders are urging calm, but the US’s move has already destabilised the region. Israel’s involved. Russia is chirping from the sidelines. And everyone’s watching to see if this spirals into another full-blown war that hurts ordinary people most.

my tits are the first thing to enter a room (culture vulture)
“It’s been that way for as long as I can remember. My tits are the first thing to experience fresh air, meet new people, step inside a Metro car. This isn’t me humble bragging, it’s simply the truth when it comes to being part of the Rocky Mountain Club. Any well-endowed person in this club knows what I’m talking about. The tits greet the world for us as if they’re their own person and we’re left trailing behind, carrying their weight.”
The moms trying to delay their daughters’ periods (Vox)
“Delaying my daughter’s first period is a goal I have in motherhood,” wrote Nicky Skinner, a nurse and health coach, on Instagram last month. Skinner has been concerned for years about the effects of certain chemicals on girls’ puberty, she told me in an email. Now that she’s a mom to a 4- and 7-year-old, she’s working to eliminate those chemicals from their lives.
‘Toy Story 5’ Is Making Tech Its Big Bad (Gizmodo)
“Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs get exponentially harder when they go head to head with this all new threat to playtime.” In short, the gang will have to deal with a new generation of children who’ve become iPad babies.
Soft Clubbing Is the New Going Out (The Cut)
Indeed, we were all Soft Clubbing. Nightlife isn’t dying (not yet!), but for many young millennials and Gen-Zers, it is evolving into something less chaotic, more considered. It’s what happens when a generation raised on overstimulation and burnout wants the fun without the fatigue. Gone are the nights of partying until 4 a.m.; instead, we’re spending evenings (or, just as often, afternoons) “partying” at coffee shops, cafés, and, yes, hair salons. It’s about showing up for a specific vibe, with specific intentions — catching a set with friends, maybe meeting someone new, and calling it a night by midnight.

i genuinely do hate being American now more than ever, and I think that sentiment is pretty widely shared by a lot of us (just look at No Kings Day)
this title made me do a spit take
