👑Do You Care About the King's Coronashe?👑
+ A new Harry Styles video & Shit You Should Cook About!
I’m just rising from a pasta and wine-induced sleep (the best type) because Squish and his girlfriend Sophie were in town last night, so I got to show them some of my fave spots!!! They’re off to Las Vegas for a wedding (not theirs I don’t think), and Squish has INSISTED on bringing his bike over as extra luggage even though he’s literally only going for a week. Cyclists huh?
Also, we have an INCREDIBLY EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT for you all tomorrow - I can’t wait to spill the beans!!!
Do you care about the King's coronashe?

Do you care about the King’s coronashe?
Squish and I talked about the King’s coronation a lil bit for tomorrow’s ep of The Shit Show, and we just both couldn’t help but wonder by the end of it - who actually cares? Not in like a cruel way, but just genuinely, does anyone under the age of 30 care about this event?
It’s costing $100 MILLION POUNDS (that’s taxpayer money) while the UK is facing a cozzie livs (cost of living crisis) and people are literally struggling to heat their homes/ put food on the table….
The artists that have agreed to perform aren’t exactly… A-listers (except for you Andrea Bocelli.) You’ve got the likes of Katy Perry, Take That, Paloma Faith, Olly Murs, Nicole Scherzinger and others taking the stage. BUT the ones who allegedly turned it down include Sir Elton John, Robbie Williams, Harry Styles and Adele.
It just kinda feels like a flop?
But instead of me and Squish guessing, I thought I’d ask you:

Shit You Should Cook About is written by London Laura - our resident ray of sunshine and co-host of Culture Vulture (our weekly pop culture podcast!) She’s a new London dweller, chief of romanticising literally everything, and will definitely ask you all what your love language is at some stage. Hiiiii lovely SYSCA whānau!!! First and foremost on a SYSCOOKA front I LOVE how much you loved the party pasta!!! Extra points for those of you who chose a fun use of pasta shape, tried it GF or gave it a go despite being anti-eggplant. I love when you send me your questions about whether its a teaspoon or a tablespoon or what could be swapped out (so keep them coming!) and additionally, since THE focaccia seems to be a fave I *may* have tried my hand at a how-to reel/TikTok that will possibly see the light of day if I can bring myself to watch it back so stay tuned for that…..
This week’s pod was interrupted by a ✨met gala special✨ which means what we had prepared is coming in a few week’s time - but that’s perf because it gives me a minute to hear from YOU. A few years back I was writing a column, and asked people to send me ‘What You Wish You Could Say To Your Ex’, which quickly evolved into ‘Thank You Next, Why Are You Grateful For Your Ex’ pieces and a whole bunch more. Not sure what I expected but I was floored by the responses!! Completely anon, it was giving write-a-post-breakup-letter-and-throw-it-into-a-fireplace energy, but with the additional collective power of showcasing how much we can learn about ourselves and the love we think we deserve from looking back at our relationship with our exes.
[Luce note: we have a whole podcast series on this, so if ur interested in breakups, come listen]
You know I’m a sucker for community and I think that hindsight and the ability to harness these learnings can be truly life-altering - so tell me - why are you grateful for your ex? What did you learn from that time? What do you wish you could tell them? Leave it in the comments or email us direct!
And finally, I had a BIG weekend of cooking for a table of people I love 💖 with some very exciting recipes to come your way soooon but the dinner party ended at 1am and honestly, I’m still too tired to write them up!! So today’s recipe is a quick one that was my nothing-left-in-the-house lunch / is my go-to late-night snack. It’s evolved over time but I think at its core it is a hybrid of cacio e peppe and aglio e olio. See you in the comments!!!! 🧀
🍝 Nothing-left-in-the-house Pasta🍝
🥰 Feeds one 🥰
1 tblsp Olive oil
Lots of ground Black pepper
1 clove Garlic
A shallot or ¼ of an onion you have leftover
Grating of Parm (or any old cheese)
Fresh herbs (if you have them)
Dash of fish sauce (optional)
Boil your pasta water and while that is happening slice your garlic / onion / fresh herbs. Add your pasta of choice to the boiling water, and once it is halfway there start to heat up your oil in another pan over a medium heat. Saute the garlic & onion, seasoning with a little salt and black pepper (also here I add a dash of fish sauce for *umami* but know that is not for everyone!). Once things look golden (about 5 mins) your pasta should also be about ready - using tongs transfer it to the hot oil / garlic pan and add in about half a ladle of the water the pasta was cooking in too. Aggressively salt / pepper / grate parm and swirl all together until it forms a glossy cheesy sauce. Plate up and add your herbs / more cheese 🧀
New ep of Culture Vulture: Met Gala and Music Lawsuits
As Laura said above, this week we went DEEP on the Met Gala/ gross history of Karl Lagerfeld (believe me, it sounds even worse when you read his quotes out loud) AND we talked about Ed Sheeran’s current copyright lawsuit. Honestly, the ep SLAYED.

Just leaving it here for ur morning joy!
Some stray headlines:
Strike Chaos Consumes Hollywood: What Made Studios Balk and Writers Walk (Variety)
“The Met Gala may have been the last glitzy event to avoid picket signs.
As of 12:01 a.m. on May 2, members of the creative community on both coasts (and production hubs in between) have traded the finery of that event for fire and brimstone on picket lines. The breakdown of the Writers Guild of America’s contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers has unleashed a torrent of emotion not seen among Hollywood union members since the last time the WGA went on strike, in 2007. The strike promises to bring even more upheaval to a marketplace that is already grappling with the fallout from technological disruption and still rebuilding from the pandemic. Six weeks of tense negotiations made it clear that the industry faces a reckoning after a decade of the Peak TV content boom that has strained Hollywood’s creative infrastructure to its breaking point.”
Real or not, reported Kremlin drone attack unsettles Russia (AP News)
“As Russian officials tell it, two Ukrainian drones flew into the very heart of Moscow under the cover of darkness, reaching the Kremlin before they were shot down at the last minute. A cloud of questions hangs over the claim.”
Boy, 13, kills eight children and security guard in Belgrade school shooting (The Guardian)
Content warning: Gun Violence
“A 13-year-old boy opened fire in a Belgrade classroom in an apparently planned attack that killed eight children and a school security guard and injured a further six pupils as well as his teacher.”
