when I was little I wore my hair in a ponytail on the very top of my head that my dad called a “fountain” but I misunderstood and called those things fountains
So I always called them hair ties growing up but when I moved to Western Australia at 12 yo, everyone called them "lackeys" as in slang for elastic. I still say it 20 years later and it still feels weird
